that probably explains the rather LARGE crowd that waited to see this turkey on DVD. Hopfully they were wanting to see Mr. Flaming Skull and NOT 13 added minutes of Eva Mendez' acting.

Don't be so hard on Ghost Rider or Eva Mendes. She's better than that overrated Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives. Why do people have to treat Ghost Rider so badly? I liked it and I will continue to defend it from detractors.

Right there with you jppintar326.
Comic book movies are starting to get the same general treatment horror movies and romantic comedies - apathy or outright scorn from the "mainstream" audiences, or at least the vocal members of such.

I hate falling back on a somewhat tired argument, but as many others have said often - it feels like some people watch movies just to nitpick and complain.

People can geuinely dislike a film, I readily accept that. (X3, for example.) And opinions and tastes vary. (Superman Returns, for example.) Some can find a film brilliant while others hate the film (Ang Lee's Hulk, for example.) But when so many people just throw out comments like "everyone knows this movie stank" or "you must be brain-dead to enjoy this film" - you have to start wondering about people.

I really enjoyed Ghost Rider. Yes, I rented it instead of buying it recently - because the wife agreed to watch it and I didn't have the money to spend on buying it (still plan on buying it, btw) - I had to take that opportunity as she had resisted me trying to get her to the theater to see it and I knew she'd like it. Despite hating Nic Cage, not knowing the comic (or comics in general), and thinking the concept was stupid - once she watched it she really enjoyed it.

I also strongly agree about the Eva Mendes / Eva Longoria comparison (though other than first names I fail to see why the comparison is made) but only because I find Desperate Housewives nearly as boring as Sex in the City, The Sopranos, or Twin Peaks.

You want some amazing rental numbers? Go back and check out Pluto Nash. That movie TRULY tanked in the box office - like 8 million total or some such. But it was the highest rental and sales for DVD for quite some time after it was released.

Ghost Rider is the worst film made from a Marvel comics property...ever!!! It is just an embarrassment to behold. Nic Cage delivered a completely incompetent performance....shame on him for putting out this trash!!! This movie simply represents more Hollywood Welfare for Cage...in the form of another big fat, and undeserved paycheck...that is all!!! This film is also proof that the once great Peter Fonda has had too many drugs from the 60's...cause he's lost his acting ability...and the guy who played Black Heart can't act, whatsoever!!! Then there is the poor direction, lousy script, bad dialogue...and cheap production values, save for the actual Ghost Rider effects, this whole thing looks like it was shot on a series of sets made out of cardboard.

Now, let's get to the leading lady of this mess. The difference between Eva Mendez and Eva Longoria, is that Eva Longoria can act!!! Eva Mendez was horrible in Ghost Rider...and I mean: "Go back to acting school horrible!!!" I've seen porn actresses that can act better!!!

Save your money...and time--don't get ripped-off by this turkey!!! Somebody please call 911 and have Nic Cage and Eva Mendez arrested by the "Acting Police"!!!

Sorry, metalwater, but you're wrong. Ghost Rider is not the worst Marvel COmic ever made. And it's not nearly as bad as you would like people to believe. As it is, you wouldn't know a bad movie if it came up behind you and bit you in the ass because everyone knows that Man-Thing is the worse Marvel movie ever made hands down. Even worse then Howard the Duck which use to hold that title until they made Man-Thing. So do us all a favor and shut that fat pie hole you call a mouth. After all, everyone has opinions and opinions are like assholes, we all have one. It just doesn't make you right.

metalwater • Jun 21, 2007, 07:05am •
Oh, please...you know I'm right, or close to it, especially since you had to go straight to Howard The Duck and Man-Thing as a defense for Ghost Rider!!! Talk about scraping the bottom of the sewer.

All three movies are a mess...and at least Howard the Duck and Man-Thing were such trash...you feel sorry for the people who made them, but in Ghost Rider's case...it is beyond contempt...because it had no reason to be as bad as it is.

Ghost Rider, unlike those other movies you sighted, had everything going for it: A number of stars in it, a semi big budget, an A- minus level Marvel character in the lead, etc.--as compare to Man-Thing and Howard The Duck which had no bankable stars in those films...and less awareness among the public!!!

Those two movies, were a gamble to begin with...no matter who made them!!! However, in the case of Ghost Rider, it should have at least bested Blade in terms of quality and story...but it fell far short in every way. So stop with all the excuses... Ghost Rider was a travesty!!! Next thing, you'll be praising is Elektra and The Flintstones movies!!!

I kind of liked Howard the Duck....

Let's not forget the TV movies: Generation X and Nick Fury (starring the Hoff!)

I'll probably piss someone off saying this, but Ghost Rider is not widely known, nor would most of the public find it anything but rediculous. Now putting that aside, I half wanted to see it, and still will probably rent it. Was it good or bad, I don't know, but it's not like a spider-man where people can relate to it. I used to read comic books and I can't remember ever seeing a ghost rider book.

Merin • Jun 21, 2007, 10:44am •
almostunbiased, my only exposure to Ghost Rider prior to the movie was a cameo in one Thor comic book (I think it was the Daniel Ghost Rider) and then the character in the Ultimate Alliance game.

Watch it with your tongue firmly implanted in your cheek and with the foreknowledge that most of the villains (Blackheart and the Fallen) are pretty lame. It's a bit corny, but Nic Cage obviously cares about the material. If you don't like him or the writer/director's style (same guy who did Daredevil) that's one thing - but both Johnson and Cage LOVE Ghost Rider so they did their best to do it justice. But the film tries to have fun and not be entirely dark.
