Ghost in the Shell

The Review!
When I saw Ghost in the Shell in English on video in 1996, I was highly confused, the movie left me with a very empty... dry feeling. My friend and I agreed it was good, but the ending was horrible, with that in mind, we took the video back to our local anime store, and I didn't give it too much though. Two and a half years later, I found myself picking up the Ghost in the Shell DVD at AWA (1998), the main reason?

I really didn't know, but I wanted to see it again maybe? Or was it just the DVD's hype? After watching it for a second time, I again, really didn't have a good feeling about it, it didn't help that the day I did watch it, I was swamped with work, had major tests coming up, and a variety of other things going on. I shut it off, put the DVD in the package and vowed to sell it. But, a month later I watched it again, and this time, it seemed to make some since to me! I watched it again while showing it to a friend, and understood it better, now, as I write this review, I can actually say I like Ghost in the Shell!

"People love machines, in 2029 AD." this is more than true! It seems that somehow, everyone is wired to the internet even through their very bodies. Many law enforment agencies require officers to "trade in" their human bodies for cybernetic ones. But what if these bodies could be hacked? Or worse, what if the computer began to understand? The video quality and just the animation in this one is outstanding!

The Japanese has a 2.0 soundtrack, while the English has 5.1. This is sad, because in my opinion, the dub is so bad that I can't bring myself to watch it! So, I'm pleased with the 2.0 Japanese sound, although I do wish it were 5.1.

The disc also features tons of extra's including the making of Ghost in the Shell, manga video promo music video, and much, much more. Finally, I have to say Ghost in the Shell is defiantly a good anime DVD, although if your like me, it may take a few viewing to get the characters and plotine down. Still, a masterpeace from Masame Shirow, definatly a good disc that's at least worth renting.
