What They Say
After a young lesbian mysteriously dies, her spirit begins to haunt her lover. Who do you call when the ghost of your ex-lover keeps terrorizing you? Saiki Misaki, the albino dominatrix necromancer, of course! The highly sexualized, and eerily suspenseful tale of Ghost Talker's Daydream hits a provocative high point. Follow Saiki as she uses her powers to solve another nail-biting mystery filled with terrifying twists.
The Review!
Misaki’s night job stays in the background for this volume. Don’t worry though, the book opens with a lesbian scene between Misaki’s magazine editor, Shizue and some tattooed girl. Seriously hot! Hot naked chicks aside, this chapter is an interesting look into the self-hate that homosexuals can put themselves through. Misaki helps Shizue communicate one last time with two lesbians she knew that committed a love suicide. The life Shizue and the other women live is complicated and sometimes painful, but the author does a good job making it a compelling chapter and one which makes me want to learn more about Shizue.
One aspect I find so interesting about Misaki is that sometimes she can’t even tell ghosts from real people. When a nice old man offers her help, Misaki doesn’t realize he is already dead. Misaki goes to the man’s home, meets his wife, and has a nice conversation before another ghost comes to gather the elderly couple. Is it going to end happily, or will something in the old man’s past take them to a horrible afterlife?
Misaki is obviously a tortured person. Between being a 19 year old albino virgin S&M dominatrix that exorcises ghosts, and having a dad that cares more about his mistress than his own daughter, Misaki has a skewed view of the world. But all those flaws are why I empathize with her to such a degree. On one hand I want to see her move away from her lifestyle and be happy, on the other, I’m curious to see how far she can fall into a dark world of sex and supernatural creatures. Those thoughts aside, we do learn more about Misaki’s life as a child and what happened with her first boyfriend in high school. After reading that, her situation and choice to remain a virgin makes a lot of sense. Oh well, I love this series and the comedic situations with Misaki’s virginity and inability to grow pubic hair keeps me from being too depressed by many of the chapters dark themes.
