It seems that Columbia Pictures is wasting no time with their long awaited return of those ectoplasm fighting heroes. Or Dan Aykroyd is just being optimistic about the development of Ghostbusters 3. While at a grand opening for a new House of Blues, the star revealed to The Boston Globe that scripting is nearly ready in hopes of a production start up in the fall.
Screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of "The Office") have been tasked by the studio to flesh out a new adventure featuring the return of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. Early reports indicate that they will be mentors to a younger team.
Here's what Dan had to say on the progress of the third title.
Q: Dan, I'm extremely excited for the HOB to be back in its birth-city!! I will be attending many shows. On a side note, and I'm sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance...Ghostbusters 3? I've heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? How is this coming along, and should we look forward to this movie seeing the light of day? Thanks Dan!
Dan Aykroyd: Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.
Expect a Mania look at the coming Ghostbusters game on Friday.
