Ever since the development of Ghostbusters 3 was officially confirmed from Sony Pictures, rumors have been flying on what the story will be centered on and some of those reports conflicted with each other. From passing the baton on to a new round of ecto-plasma fighters to Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray's son Oscar taking over the leadership of the Ghostbusters. Lead star Murray even contributed to the mass speculation by joking that he would die and be turned into a ghost before later casting doubt as to whether the third installment would ever be made.
In this latest update, returning director Ivan Reitman is asking for cooler heads to prevail among overexcited fans by telling Jenna Busch at ComingSoon that most of the previous rumors should not be counted as fact. While discussing his upcoming production No Strings Attached, here's what he had to say on the published reports regarding Ghostbusters 3.
CS: There have been a ton of stories online. Lots of back and forth...
Reitman: There is almost nothing that is accurate online about that film. Will you write that for me?
Ivan also says that the finished script has just been turned in and that lead star Bill Murray has yet to read it.
"We have a really good script, but Bill (Murray) has to read it. He hasn't read it. There has been all kinds of chatter online about him reading it and not liking it. He has not read a thing. He's never read anything. And I just sent it to him. So we'll see. God knows how long that will take. But we'll see."
