Ghostbusters 3 is still moving forward.
Is this really a sequel that anyone wants? I don't say that as a knock at the franchise. In fact, Ghostbusters is one of my all time favorite films. Perhaps I have all been burned one too many times by Hollywood and would like to hold onto my memories? Imagine if they went back and tried to spin a fourth Back to the Future. Regardless of what I think, Hollywood is moving forward. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that despite Harold Ramis' untimely death, the script will be reworked.
“The sequel's director, Ivan Reitman, is scheduled to meet with Sony production brass in the coming days to assess how to move forward on the project, which is in active development, according to sources. Ramis, Murray and Dan Aykroyd, who starred together in the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, were poised to appear briefly in the third outing to set up a baton-passing to a trio of newcomers”.
That script is currently being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (both from The Office). Another disheartening thing to the overall project was that the original Ghostbusters were not to have large roles, but cameo appearances. They were in fact going to pass the torch to a new group of characters. The script, according to The Hollywood Reporters sources, is not even ready for a 2014 production start.
