GHOSTBUSTERS Getting a Call From Sony

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Friday, September 05, 2008

Co-writer Dan Aykroyd has been hinting for some time now that there may be a future with Ghostbusters beyond the upcoming next generation console game. Those hints have now been confirmed. Columbia Pictures is bringing back the ghost-fighting team for a new adventure. The studio hopes of bringing back Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson for their title roles but no deals will be made until the script is ready.

"The Office" co-executive producers
Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are the ones in charge of scripting out the next installment.

The scribes just wrote Year One, a comedy that was directed by Ramis. Ramis with Aykroyd wrote the first two installments of the films. Ivan Reitman directed both the 1984 original and the sequel that was released in 1989. The close proximity between the writers and original Ghostbuster Ramis is evidence that the ghost chasers have sparked to the idea of returning.

Ghostbusters was Columbia's highest grossing film ever, until it was beaten by Men in Black and then Spider-Man. Previous efforts have been made on bringing the supernatural team back to the big screen but those attempts were stymied in the dealmaking stage because too much gross was pledged to the participants at the time.

As long as Bill Murray is in it, I am there. He was by far the funniest guy in the movies. That tirade at City Hall is classic!

This is great, but Aykroyd already wrote a script, I don't see why they need a new one. http://movies.ign.com/articles/366/366119p1.html

Um.. just about every movie that has "gone back to the well" one last time has proved to have less than spectacular results. Akroyd is desperate for something... Let it go... How is it that remakes piss people off so much but bringing back classics that should just be left alone are OK?

I could see a new younger team that gets into trouble and only the real Ghostbusters can save the day from Gozer.

As usual as long as they don't go nuts on budget the film could be good. Release at Halloween would be cool. Of course I have never seen a movie do any good around that time but it would be ideal.
