Harold Ramis as Egon by Mattel

Mattel made a debut at the New York Comic Con where, surprisingly, most toy distributors were absent. With the International Toy Fair right around the corner Mattel broke tradition and debuted their new Ghostbusters line to avid fans. There will be two lines with uncanny and yet satirical likenesses of the Ghostbusters. Long gone are The Real Ghostbusters cartoon action figures from the late Eighties and early Nineties yet these new figures, the seven inch figures at least, seem to fit perfectly with NECA’s Ghostbusters villains line (seen here).
Absent from the convention display case were likenesses of Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddmore. On display were incredible twelve inch prototypes of Harold Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler and two different Dan Aykroyds as Dr. Raymond Stantz. Of course there was also the fan favorite Slimer in both a twelve inch size and what looks to be a companion figure for the seven inch line.
The figures will be released by Mattel but only through their MattyCollector.com branch. MattyCollector accommodates the serious toy collector as well as younger fans. It is also home to their DC Universe, Justice League Unlimited and He-Man toy lines.
Expect to see these figures in the fall of 2009 as Columbia Pictures celebrates Ghostbusters’twenty-fifth anniversary. Check out the gallery for more pictures and look for the Toy Maniac column every Friday for all the latest on action figures and collectibles.
very cool, I never understood why they made egon a freakinsh looking blond in the cartoon, but loved it anyway. These look grea, and If enough of us buy em, maybe we'll finally get the game released, then maybe we'll get a new ghostbusters movie!
