'G.I. Joe' producer denounces rumor. Plus: Reynolds says same on 'Deadpool'. Cool 'Scott Pilgrim' photo. del Toro was a contender for 'Thor'. 'Iron Man 2' photo analysis and more! Footloose and fancy free, it's your Comics2Film 9.6.12!
Ryan Reynolds is talking about 'Deadpool' again, although I think we've heard all he has to say about the movie at the moment. MTV Splash Page (proudly proclaiming their story an "exclusive") posted the actors comments, which are pretty similar to comments he made a few weeks back.
Reynolds reiterated that he's deeply involved in the development, beyond what would normally be expected of a lead actor. As such, he aims to make the character as similar to the comics as possible.
"I get to be the authentication police, in a weird way," Reynolds told MTV.
As reported previously, Deadpool will be a scar-faced "Merc with a Mouth". Reynolds does state emphatically that, "he’s going to be in the suit — and, it’s going to be incredible," which is a tiny bit more than he's said about the costume in the past.
But Reynolds admits they're just starting to figure the story out.
In case you missed the report elsewhere on Mania.com, 'Friday the 13th' director Marcus Nispel has been tapped to head-up the 'Conan' movie, which is fast-tracked to start rolling cameras this year.
In MTV's chat with director Guillermo del Toro, the mad mexican revealed that Marvel had courted him to helm the 'Thor' movie.
"[Marvel] approached me for ‘Thor,’" del Toro said. "And for a long time we talked about that, because the mythology and the images were very attractive to me. This was before 'Hellboy II'.

/Film has an interesting analysis of the two official photos released from the set of 'Iron Man 2'. Their scrutiny of the earlier Tony Stark lab photo reveals that he's actually looking at a map of the Monaco Grand Prix race track on his monitor, which also may be displaying a schematic of Whiplash's chest armor. Yesterday Latino Review re-posted an anonymous message board story alleging terrible things were happening between director Stephen Sommers and the producers of 'G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra'. They also said their sources were corroborating the story on some level. The upshot of the report was that Sommers had been dismissed from post-production after a disastrous test screening.
Later in the day they heard from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who called the report "very unfair" and "completely untrue".
"It's very unfair to Steve, it's completely untrue he was never asked to leave or been fired or any of that. That’s ridiculous. The movie tested very well," said di Bonaventura.
"I think its really destructive for a director…It hurts a guy's career when people go around talking about that he was fired or he didn’t do a good job and truth is he did a really good job. People are going to enjoy the movie and the test audiences enjoyed the movie."
"He did a very good job the movie tested well and it couldn’t be more false that the studio in anyway did anything negatively to Steve."
Di Bonaventura later characterizes the post-production and editing room experiences as a fairly typical of the process of continuously tweaking a movie to make it better. He said everyone -- the studio, the filmmakers and the audience so far -- has been happy with the film. It's been tested three times and scored higher each time.
Yesterday's photos from Edgar Wright, from the set of 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' featured a nice image of actress Allison Pill amidst the band equipment. Pill plays Kim Pine, the drummer in Scott's band.

We just noticed something new going on with our pals over at Comic Book Resources: There's a strange little coffee ring on the CBR logo these days. What could it mean? What could it mean?
And finally a happy-happy episode of...
