El Mayimbe over at Latino Review did a script review for the G.I JOE movie which is on the horizon after the success of Hasbro's TRANSFORMERS. The question going between all the fans and from Latino Review after the script treatment review was:

Are the Cobras going to be involved in the movie as the villains?

Brian Golder, COO Of Hasbro and exec producer for TRANSFORMERS & G.I JOE, saw the Latino article and wrote a response for that exact question. He assures the fans that there will be a contemporary G.I Joe vs Cobras storyline with the movie.

Dear Mr. Mayimbe:

Thanks for your note.  We are working to develop a movie script that delivers a contemporary GI JOE vs. COBRA story, inspired by the comic books. We do not yet have one.  Hopefully soon….

Regards bg

Dreamworks and Paramount are currently working alongside Hasbro in adapting the old school cartoon to the big screen.

Thanks to scooper "Daforce" for sending in the tip.

They're not going to copy BATMAN BEGINS, where they start up Operation: GI JOE to go after some terrorist cell, only to find near the end of the film, that the cell is funded by a more sinister organization (COBRA), are they?

If they make it realistic in a "Batman Begins" fashion and not something idiotic like "Street Fighter," it will have a lot of potential.

I've read that it's being written by Skip Woods (who did "Hitman"), so it might be good depending on how well that movie does. Then again, he also did "Swordfish," so who knows?

I hope Snake Eyes makes his way into this film.

oriongreenguy,
Isn't that the plot for just about every movie? what a twist!
I hope they try do it as realistic as possible, It could be sweet.
It would be sweet if they use the Classic Cobra Commander mask (the one in the pic). A Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow sub plot is a must.
Kinda like the Wolverine/Sabertooth thing from X-1.
I think the key would be to keep the cast small and cool, Again like X-1, or Transformers. Better to focus on a small band of heroes at first, that way they can really be fleshed out as heroes. Then they could fight 5-6 fleshed out Villains, and HORDES of masked cobra guards.
GO JOE!
p.s. I liked swordfish, esecially 2 things (need I say more)

It would be cooler if GI Joe were a period piece. Put him back in WWII.
My gut says this isn't gonna work, that battling Cobra will be kinda corny in the modern era. But I reckon it's early yet, and they may find a way to make it work.

UH...
I really gotta disagree
GI JOE is perfect for our times.
An elite group of soldiers formed to fight an extremely hostile TERRORIST CADRE!
Where have I heard this before, OH YEAH every day and night for the last 5 years. Never before has the U.S. Military been assembled on such a great scale to battle Terrorist. (DISCLAIMER: I'm not in the GOP AND I'm against the unjust wars being waged by our idio.. uh I mean President)
BUT This story is more relevant now more than ever. In the past we fought Countries. Now we are fighting terrorist. Talk about perfect timing.
WWII?... Uh bad idea for a modern high tech elite fighting force movie.
WWII, GREAT IDEA for a Captain America movie
Thats my 2 cents on this latest 30 min weekly commercial turned big budget flick.
I'll go see it no matter what, I'm stoopid like that

I loved G.I.Joe. I am loking forward to this more than I was Transformers and that was a lot. I'm sure the story will have to change quite a bit. Like the new spectre in the new James Bond movie was a little more realistic (Of course I'm assuming it was spectre). But same idea still.
I too would really love to see snake eyes. He's got to be there. That characters won't probably look the same, but I hope all the main one's are there.
And I know it's dumb saying this but I hope it's not done like a cartoon like transformers was. I want kick ass, not wise ass.

For those that read the comics have they ever explained how Destro is all metallic like?

I did pickup the Snake Eyes: Declassified trade paperback and man that was darn good. Still would like to pick up the other trade paperbacks for the new comics.

If they do the movie like the above comics then they'll have a darn good movie!

When in doubt.... wiki it out...

my question is this, which comic line are they going to try and follow, Marvels, or Devils Due.

Since some of the Transformers plotline followed Dreamwaves remake, im hoping they go with Devils Due.

But if they go with something new, do a new origin story set in present time, when terrorism is at its highest and a new military group is made to combat it (G.I.JOE). This way you can introduce all the characters without aging them to old, and can have it that they go up against real terrorists to find out that they are all being secretly run by an unknown orginization (Cobra).

Characters definately needed-
G.I.Joe Definates:
Snake-Eyes
Duke
Flint
Lady J
Scarlett - maybe even have the fact that her and snake-eyes were together at some point in the past

Cobra Definates:
Cobra Commander
Destro
Zartan
Baroness
Dr. Mindbender - need him if they want to throw Serpentor into a future sequal
Stormshadow - of course big battle scene with him and Snake-Eyes
and the Twins, forgot their names.
