Shopping Bag: The Italian Hitchcock? - Jun 10, 2008 - 02:36am
I disagree with you on "Tenebre" but the main problem with this box set is that it is a poor representation of Argento's films. The director gained international acclaim and success during the 70s and this is when he made his best films. This set has two movies from the 80s and a couple from the last 5 years. Go back and watch his first three giallos: "Bird with Crystal Plumage", "Cat O'Nine Tails", and, if you can find it, "Four Flies on Gray Velvet". "Cat O'Nine Tails" definitely has a Hitchock feel to it but it represents Argento's attempt to make a more Western-style film before defining and mastering his own style.
"Suspiria" is probably his most famous work but "Inferno" is a strong entry as well. These two films are part of his "Three Mothers" trilogy and the last film in the series is actually seeing limited release in the U.S. this month.
Finally, check out "Deep Red", a highly stylized and delightfully creepy thriller with all the flash and fun of the giallo genre.
Family Guy: Blue Harvest - Jan 20, 2008 - 07:50pm
I liked it but it was definitely a very respectful parody which is not something I would have expected from such an irreverent show. MacFarlane is obviously a fan.
Wow, Robert, I hadn't thought about Hardware Wars in a long time. Thanks for the memories....I guess.
New Poster for Tarantino's HELL RIDE - Jan 20, 2008 - 07:43pm
Moz, I like your prediction.
I think this could be decent. At least it's an untapped genre of film; I don't remember the last biker film to be released. Hopefully Wildhogs doesn't count...

Man, you guys are such hypocrites. Shogunpimp, you said "I don't sit there picking it apart trying to find what's wrong with it" but here's your comments from Superman Returns: "Personally, I would like it if they just axed the entire idea that Superman now has a son. I think it detracts from the movie and the mythos as a whole. Fix that and then add in either Darkseid or Mongul or hell even Braniac as the main villian with Luthor as a background player and that would solve a lot of gripes about Superman Returns." That's not picking a movie apart? Gimme a break.
I accept that you guys genuinely enjoyed the movie but you are just as cynical about movies you didn't like as the "haters" are about Transformers. So don't act like you never bash any movies or have no critiques. If so, Mr. Boll would have a lot more positive reviews...
Michael Bay Prepping TRANSFORMERS 2 - Jan 19, 2008 - 09:55pm
Ok, in the sake of everyone getting along I'll try to find some common ground and think of something I liked about Transformers. One, I thought the two hour ad for the new Camaro made it look pretty cool (Maybe the next film will have the new Dodge Challenger). And second, Megan Fox looked damn good so I guess maybe we can agree there.
I really wanted to like this movie as I loved Transformers as a kid. I didn't go in expecting Shakespearean acting or Mamet-level writing; I really didn't. I just wanted a fun, summer movie and it just didn't do it for me even on that level.
That being said, I'm sure I'll be there for the next one because there probably won't be much else to watch anyway. And because I never learn my lesson the first time....lol

So Armageddon is in Wolvie's top ten movies of all time....I wonder what the hell else is on that list? Is it possible that maybe he's only seen ten movies?
I'm going to guess that #2 is probably Megaforce...

I love how there's no middle ground - Transformers is either a good movie or you must have been expecting an Academy award winner and were disappointed. I went into it expecting a good summer movie and nothing more but what I got was a shiny piece of crap complete with pissing robots that completely insulted the audience.
I think you can ask for a little more from the film without expecting high art.
