Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) and Joan Allen (Bourne Ultimatum) have joined Paul W.S Anderson's DEATH RACE. They'll be co-starring alongside Jason Statham who leads the billing for the project. Filming is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. This is a remake of the cult classic sci-fi/action, DEATH RACE 2000, directed by Roger Corman.

DEATH RACE hits theaters everywhere on September 26, 2008.

I know this is not the "Usual Opnion" of Paul W.S. Anderson, but I love his movies. He delivers what I want, an escape from reality for a few hours. I loved the original Death Race, so I think that this will be totally kick ass. Off topic a little, Resident Evil: Extinction looks effing amazing. I LOVE those movies.

Anderson's a so-so director. "Solider" was okay, "Resident Evil" was decent...but that's all they are...decent flicks.

I watched the original Death Race 2000on DVD recently. It seemed to be ahead of its time in social satire. A young Sly Stallone was very good as David Carradine's nemesis. This could be interesting if they keep to the spirit of the original.

I've enjoyed most of Anderson's work, because, as was mentioned, they're just a lot of fun...as action-popcorn flicks should be.

One think I would, say, though, is that Soldier let me down a bit. It got off to a really good start, and had the big climax, but it slowed down a bit too much in between for my tastes.

As for this film....it's about time someone decided to remake this...Judging by the RE series, we should get some nice splats iwith those point totals...

Agreed, jppintar326. I sincerely hope that the remake is not dumbed down and the socio-political satire is lost.

Anderson isn`t a great director by any standards. Anyone who watched AVP can atest to that, but that being said. I do like a lot of his movies. I always say the same thing about him though. He is a much better writer then he is a director. I really enjoyed Resident Evil but visually Apocalpyse was betterand Extinction looks even better. He should stick to writing and producing. Event Horizon, Soldier and Mortal Kombat were all pretty good.

Death Race 2000 wasn't directed by Roger Corman. It was produced by him and directed by the late Paul Bartel.

Something tells me Paul W.S. Anderson is going to leave out the social satire.

Let's just call it a hunch.

Paul Anderson is hardly the Second Coming, but I will scream from the mountaintops that Event Horizon is one of the most underrated and underappreciated movies in the last decade. None of his films have been high art, and most have been mediocre at best. I will wait for a trailer for Death Race before deciding on seeing the movie, but I doubt I would care to see it in theaters.
