Though two studios are developing projects based on the tragic events of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in WW II, Mel Gibson won't be a part of either of them.
Previously, it had been reported that Gibson had been negotiating with Warner Bros. regarding the role of the real life ship's captain for the studio's IN HARM'S WAY project. Meanwhile, word had it that Universal was seeking Gibson out for the same role in their developing project based on the same event, called THE GOOD SAILOR.
Now, according to Variety columnist Michael Fleming, Gibson has quietly chosen to pass on both projects.
Gibson is at work on M. Night Shyamalan's SIGNS, now shooting in and around Philadelphia.
