Gibson's PASSION earns big bucks

The final tally is in and Mel Gibson's THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST earned a whopping $23.6 million dollars on its opening day. That makes Gibson's film the third highest grossing picture fro Wednesday releases and ninth highest grossing opening day of all time.
By adding the special church group screenings held on Monday and Tuesday this week, another $3 million dollars can be lumped on to THE PASSION's cumulative total, bringing it up to $26.6 M. The outstanding performance of the controversial religious film blew away all expectations from box office analysts.
