By most account 'G.I. Joe: Resolute' was the kind of cool, gritty, mature adventure long-time Joe fans were hankering for.
I think I'd say it was CLOSER to the kind of things fans wanted, but I keep coming back to one thing:
Duke and Scarlett surrounded by a dozen or more Cobra troops, all at less that 10 yards (probably closer than 5) and 1 - exactly ONE - bullets grazes Duke's arm. Hell, the Cobra troops should have all been dead WITH Duke and Scarletts (circular formations when in a firefight are a good way to get blue-on-blue fire).
Now, I understand you can't kill the leads like that, but the way around it isn't through "magic", it's to not put them in the situation in the first place.
On the plus side, they DID actually kill Cobra grunts, and even (off-screen) dropped Major Bludd and Bazooka. They IMPLY that Zartan was killed (strongly implied), but if this goes to series, I'm certain he'll be back.
So, while Resolute was fantastic, it wasn't the Be-All-End-All that others seem to make it out to be.
Personally, I'd love to see Hasbro and Marvel get together, do some of the comic-book stories as direct-to-video animated stories. Though Marvel seems to take the more "original story" route, I think copying the DC method of taking pre-existing stories would work better.

If the live action movie had been anywhere remotely close to what was done with GI JOE Resolute it would have been awesome. I hope that Resolute eventually leads to a new series.
