Remember back in the summer, before the feature film 'G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra' hit theaters, there was an animated film called 'G.I.Joe: Resolute'? It aired simultaneously on Cartoon Network and the web and featured a story written by Warren Ellis and was directed by Joaquim Dos Santos.

By most account 'G.I. Joe: Resolute' was the kind off cool, gritty, mature adventure long-time Joe fans were hankering for.

Well, next week it'll be available on the DVD for the first time. Paramount Home Entertainment have provided us with storyboard art from the animated project to whet your appetite. And, we've also been told that if you p[re-order the DVD from Amazon.com you'll get a free, downloadable 'G.I.Joe: Resolute' comic.

The DVD goes on sale November 3rd. Here are those storyboards...

If the live action movie had been anywhere remotely close to what was done with GI JOE Resolute it would have been awesome. I hope that Resolute eventually leads to a new series.

By most account 'G.I. Joe: Resolute' was the kind of cool, gritty, mature adventure long-time Joe fans were hankering for.

I think I'd say it was CLOSER to the kind of things fans wanted, but I keep coming back to one thing:

Duke and Scarlett surrounded by a dozen or more Cobra troops, all at less that 10 yards (probably closer than 5) and 1 - exactly ONE - bullets grazes Duke's arm. Hell, the Cobra troops should have all been dead WITH Duke and Scarletts (circular formations when in a firefight are a good way to get blue-on-blue fire).

Now, I understand you can't kill the leads like that, but the way around it isn't through "magic", it's to not put them in the situation in the first place.

On the plus side, they DID actually kill Cobra grunts, and even (off-screen) dropped Major Bludd and Bazooka. They IMPLY that Zartan was killed (strongly implied), but if this goes to series, I'm certain he'll be back.

So, while Resolute was fantastic, it wasn't the Be-All-End-All that others seem to make it out to be.

Personally, I'd love to see Hasbro and Marvel get together, do some of the comic-book stories as direct-to-video animated stories. Though Marvel seems to take the more "original story" route, I think copying the DC method of taking pre-existing stories would work better.

Comparitively you have to admitt this is the best version of Joe we have seen on screen.

Hope to God this turns into a series, but I'm not holding my breath.

Finally,  i've been waiting 4 this to come out ! To me, this should have been the joe movie in theaters instead of that "Ok" Rise of Cobra.

Happy to hear this is hitting the stores soon.  It'll be nice to add it to my other GI Joe DVDs.
