TV Wasteland: SCI-FI Fans Like to Panic - Nov 17, 2008 - 08:05am
Stargate: Atlantis is a great show, which will be sadly missed. not sure what your problem w/ it is. and while i agree w/ your coments on SciFi's "reality" fare i think you're a bit off base w/ Atlantis, Eureaka, BSG and Sanctuary(which is growing on me) all being enjoyable and quality shows. as the article stated, something has to pay the bills, b/c as good as BSG is, it doesn't put butts in seats the way we think it should. if Scifi has to have a couple nights of unwatchable dreck to pay for more shows like Atlantis and BSG then let them, we don't have to watch
Mendes says PREACHER has a long road ahead - Nov 10, 2008 - 04:38pm
1st) Preacher is my favorite story, ever, in any medium. I'd like to boil it down, chop it up, and mix into cookies to sell at street fairs for the unsuspecting, it is that delicious
2nd) I've always been against this in movie format, unless they did it LotR style and filmed like 5 of them all together so they had to release them.
3rd) Put this on showtime, do like 3 seasons and put almost everything in there. The 'salvation' book would really only need to be like 1 episode and there are other storylines that could be summed up in shorter order as well, while expanding others.
TV Wasteland: Let the LOST and Heroes Comparisons Begin - Nov 10, 2008 - 04:24pm
why is it that we aren't allowed to enjoy both shows. and why does Hanso seem to have something personel against Heroes. dude we get it, you like Lost, not every show has to be Lost to be enjoyed. I'll grant you that Lost is the superior show, but it had some speed bumps along the way as well.
I think giving Heroes an end point would be the worst decision they could make, it is a series designed to be open ended, w/ new stories, occasional new characters, while keeping the core characters in place. Having a new set of characters every year would drive viewers away in droves, who want's to see every season be full of origin episodes. imagine if Lost had a new set of castaways land on the island each year, lame. casual viewers would just give up and ask 'why should i care about these new people?' I like how they have inserted new characters this year, it felt organic (except the jessica triplet thing, ugh), and they are interesting in how they interact w/ prior ones.
I will miss Atlantis a lot when it goes, I don't want movies, I want to visit my buds in the Pegasus galaxy every week, not twice yearly in straight to video. screw that, i have zero interest in the new show. a starship needs only 1 wesley crusher, not an entire crew. dumb, dumb, dumb
HEROES: Angels and Monsters - Oct 16, 2008 - 01:36pm
i'm glad too see that there are others who are actually enjoying Heroes like I am. i don't get all this 'too many characters' crud, didn't the LAST review say there should be NEW characters introduced. its like people are going out of their way to dislike it for whatever reason. I really enjoy the Hiro- Ando segments, they are meant to bring a lightness to the show, they have since the first season. people need to get off their high horse and appreciate the show for what it is, not whatever outlandsih expectations they had. its a show about superheroes for f*cks sake, get a grip.
that said, i could do w/out Nikki/Jessica/whatever-her-new-name-is. bringing her back as a triplet is a bit much and seems forced, they could have just not had her die @ the end of season 2 and it would have been ok.
TV Wasteland: Red Mars is Coming to AMC - Oct 06, 2008 - 12:34pm
I gotta say i've been really enjoying Mondays this year. Chuck is just as much fun as last year. Heroes has been great - i'm not really sure why such a luke warm reaction to this years eps (but then i have to tape it and watch it later so i haven't been reading the review/discussions like i normally would, that's what happens when you have a new baby). Life is great, I really enjoy that show, couldn't really say why exactly but its just good tv.
Mumbling Kitsune: Experiencing the Death Note Movie - Sep 22, 2008 - 07:54pm
Saw the first Death Note this weekend, good stuff. I actually liked that there were changes to the plot. It was a good way to keep the plot fresh on its third outing. The end sequence 'reveal' was really good but i was left wanting more. which i guess was the point.
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Automatic for the People - Sep 17, 2008 - 03:28pm
ya but if he did that they wouldn't have to do list in blood. I liked the ep well enough, but I already plan on switching over to Chuck. I'll catch terminator on dvd next summer. stupid networks, making genre shows compete like this only hurts them. there are a finite amount of us who watch these shows instead of the other crap like CSI:wisconsin and american lip-synch
Norton Unsure on Returning as INCREDIBLE HULK - Sep 17, 2008 - 02:02pm
Norton is very necessary for another Hulk, why? b/c he wrote much of the script. As a big fan of Hulk i'm hoping to see ole jade jaws back on the screen again both for Avengers and a solo adventure.
anyone else think Wolverine will cameo in Avengers?
DVD Review: THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM Two Disc Special Edition - Sep 17, 2008 - 01:57pm
I really enjoyed this one. Not that it was an amazing film but it was a really fun movie. The only complaint I had was that Netflix sent me a defective disk. Really, how can I be the first viewer and already the disc doesn't work. Poor manufacturing i guess
TV Wasteland: ABC to Return - Sep 08, 2008 - 11:53am
I have to agree about "Six Feet Under", that show just make me feel bad inside. I don't get the appeal, you create some decent characters and then drag them through sh!t week after week. I gave up 1/2 way through the 2nd season when the vile Brenda just completely turned me off the series. But it did give us Michael C Hall for Dexter so there is small redemption there.
excited to see Terminator this week, but once NBC's monday lineup comes back that one'll fall by the wayside for me. Its stupid the way channels put genre shows up against each other vying for the exact same demographics. they could easily put the show on another night and we'd folow like lambs.
also happy Burn Notice is back to finish its season, I really enjoy that one
Aaron Eckhart Confirms Two-Face's Fate - Sep 04, 2008 - 05:55pm
please keep Leo as far from this as possible. He's not a good actor, he looks like a 14 year old, and is totally over-rated. He makes the list of actors who make me less inclined to see a movie. leave Joker alone until the next reboot, batman's got an immense rouges gallery, no need to trample an amazing performance
DVD Review of Dexter Season 2 - Sep 03, 2008 - 09:20pm
This show is so good its silly. But thanks to Netflix being a bunch of bitches i've only managed to see the first disc. c'mon its been on my queue since last August, you'd think they might send me the discs in a timely manner. its killing me.
but to placate my need for some Dex i started reading 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter'. I haven't decided which I like better yet though, book or show.
The Mumbling Kitsune: Growing Out of Anime - Aug 31, 2008 - 12:57pm
I think for sure I've lost some interest in anime over the years. I used to rush home to catch DBZ and whatever else was on toonami back in the day. Now I have a hard time getting into new series unless the feel really fresh or interesting. Death Note for instance. I used to get excited for saturday nights during the first year BLEACH was on, now i just watch it for habit and hoping for something interesting (can't seem to get into this bount storyline). I hated Blood+ by the end of its run, Code Geass is ok, but if it wasn't on after bleach i wouldn't seek it out, that seems to be a running theme for me. unless it feels fresh, I just am not that into it. Not to say there isn't some great stuff out there that I haven't sampled yet, but i sure haven't found much in the last few years to warrant the effort. so much of it just seems derivitive.
HBO Scraps Adaptation of PREACHER - Aug 27, 2008 - 03:54pm
damn, damn, DAMN. I was so excited when word first came out HBO was going to be doing this. A movie version = bad idea as others have said, its just way too expansive a story to be done in a short format. Perhaps Showtime will pick this up. They have taken over the top spot in pay cable imo. After HBO cancelled the sublime Deadwood, and the incredible Rome they don't have me for a fan anymore. Showtime has been picking up the slack in a major way w/ Dexter and Weeds. If done right this would be a major coupe for them I believe.
Manfredi and Hay Adapting Ennis' BOYS - Aug 27, 2008 - 03:33pm
I love me some Ennis, as long as we get the trademark humor and violence this should work out just fine
STARGATE ATLANTIS Movie Greenlit by Sci-Fi - Aug 22, 2008 - 02:16pm
I read this yesterday on another site and was as pissed off as the rest of you. But it looks like it was MGM's call primarily to switch over. That said Sci Fi should have stepped up and said please let us continue to make this series. I love Atlantis, I was never that into SG1, but watching Atlantis is like hanging out w/ your good buds on a friday night. The chemistry in that cast is incredible. So now it looks like Eureka is the only SciFi show I'll be looking forward to each week once BSG concludes. perhaps Sanctuary will be good, but it sure as heck won't fill the hole left by Atlantis.
ps BRING BACK DRESDEN!
BURN NOTICE: Rough Seas - Aug 22, 2008 - 02:03pm
I always enjoy this show, its a nice summer treat (especially after USA cancelled the 4400). I do have to agree w/ the review in regards to the formula, they have stayed true to it for almost the entire run of the show (I think the last ep of season 1 was mostly burn notice stuff, could be wrong though) and a change up from the notice sandwhich would be interesting. That said, I think the grade was a bit low based on Michaels undercover character alone. There were some golden moments there. As for his mom, I tend to just tune out whenever she's on screen, I've said it from the first episode which she almost killed for me, she just isn't entertaining or a worthwhile character. Take her screen time and give it to Bruce, he could ride around on a tricycle and i'd be entertained by it (very much so come to think about it). But between Burn Notice and In Plain Sight USA has got a pair of winning summer shows
TV Wasteland: Torchwood Audio Episode? - Aug 12, 2008 - 03:44pm
LOVE Doctor Who, couldn't get through the first season of Torchwood. Captain Jack is a great character but the rest of the cast and the melodrama ruined it for me.
Disney Pushes PERSIA Back a Year - Aug 01, 2008 - 12:17pm
loved the games. should be an interesting movie w/ lots of effects. I've got no problem w/ them making sure its perfect rather than rushing it
EUREKA: Bad to the Drone - Jul 31, 2008 - 04:28pm
I enjoyed the episode, and that's all i ever ask of this show. I do agree that last seasons ending just didn't feel quite right.
TV Wasteland: High Hopes on the Fringe - Jul 21, 2008 - 12:32pm
I don't know if anyone else is watching it but 'In Plain Sight' on USA has been putting some solid entertaining episodes out there. Haven't seen this weeks Burn Notice yet, and ya that's last weeks Atlantis plot
Comicscape: Delving into Dead Souls - Jul 16, 2008 - 02:21pm
Kurt, congrats on accomplishing something many of us want to do but few ever actually do. kudos
Universal and Platt Planning WANTED 2 - Jul 15, 2008 - 12:37pm
The movie was great b/c the source material was great. If Millar isn't involved then it won't be worth the time. Not every successful film needs a sequal.
He should do Dusk Watch instead
BURN NOTICE: Breaking and Entering - Jul 15, 2008 - 12:33pm
I really liked season 1 but it started really slow, and i almost gave up after the first episode. only the magic that is the Bruce kept me coming back, until I realised how much I enjoyed it each week. I love the running voice over, I love the 'this is how you make a cell phone into a ____' and all that spy stuff.
that said I didn't care for this episode. I think the editing, especially @ the begining killed it. I loathe stop cuts, I can't think of another visual trick that angers me more than during a fight or chase or what have you and the action stops, pauses or whatever. I know the first season tried to do some things like that w/ the editing/visuals but that chase scene early on in the episode just killed its own momentum w/ those stupid stop cuts
Graphic Novel Review of Coraline - Jul 06, 2008 - 01:48am
ALL PRAISE BE TO LORD GAIMAN
seriously though, this is a mesmerizing tale full of dark beauty (not the crappy deathclub kind, the real kind) and imagination. If you had to describe his work in a single word it would be imagination. I gobble up every morsel he throws out there and try to pass it on to someone else. I just finished listening to his narrated version of Coraline and can't wait to share it w/ my kids when they get old enough to enjoy it (or when i get more than the 1). I also borrowed an advance copy of the Graveyard Book from a friend that i'm about to tear into. If there is anyone out there who hasn't checked out his work for whatever silliness do yourself a favor, pick up American Gods and then pick any medium for a followup, he's done everything.
whew...ok mancrush over
Universal's TV Panel Lineup for Comic-Con 2008 - Jul 01, 2008 - 02:56pm
Actually I think Wizard hosts a con in Texas, Dallas i believe.
I'm fortunate enought to only live 3 hours from SD so i'll be going to comic-con (for thursday anyway) again this year, and I can't wait
Bekmambetov Unsure on DAY WATCH Sequel - Jun 17, 2008 - 02:24pm
I loved the first one, the way they used subtitles was amazing. they were fluid and you never took your eyes off what was going on. It felt very innovative and added a layer to a great movie.
I was very dissapointed that the 2nd movie didn't have the same thing going for it. consequently i never finished watching it, i'll get back to it some day, but it was such a let down. If/when a 3rd is made i really hope they put them back in or its just another missed opportunity
Comicscape: Five Problems with American Comics - May 28, 2008 - 05:30pm
Starman is definitely a hidden gem of a book. If I didn't already have the trades I would be all over the deluxe edition. Other than Runaways its the only super hero book i'd ever consider giving to someone who doen't already read comics. I really can't recomend it enough
LOST: No Place Like Home Part 1 - May 18, 2008 - 11:43am
So, so good. Riveting episode.
But i missed the end thanks to Time Warner Cable cutting away to the george lopez show re-runs. all I saw was Ben w/ his hands up and then it cut away ARGHH!!!!
Comicscape: Sucking Life with Gabe Soria - May 14, 2008 - 03:04pm
"KA: Nobody likes hippies."
I'd much rather hang out w/ a bunch of hippies than w/ the Death Club or Les Infants du Sang.
CW Gives REAPER Renewal - May 13, 2008 - 04:54pm
I just hope it continues to get better. Post writers strike it took a huge step up in quality, pre-strike not so good
DVD Review: THE GOLDEN COMPASS - May 13, 2008 - 01:26pm
I quite enjoyed this in the theaters. It wasn't mind blowing or anything, but a fun fantasy film (which i tend to enjoy). After seeing it I even read the books and they are even more adult in tone and substance. I hope to see future installments.
I just wish studios/directors would give more time to movies like this that need it. You can't chop a sprawling epic down to 90 minutes and expect it to be coherant. THese films need some breathing room to really come alive, not just cram your favorite chapters in there one after another.
DEATH RACE Arrives Early - May 12, 2008 - 02:06pm
I have fond memories of the Corman classic. The new one sounds like a conceptual transplant. Hopefully it will be as fun
DONNIE DARKO Sequel - May 10, 2008 - 09:45am
Southland Tales = great flick. I can see why people wouldn't like it and for the first 1/2 hour I thought I wouldn't either. Then I found the groove the movie was going for and held on for the crazy ride.DD was great as well. I love anything that i actually have to think about to follow. Sure sometimes i like my entertainment spoonfed, but a movie that makes you think and gets better w/ more viewings, how could you not find something to love.As for the sequal, I doubt it'll be anywhere close w/out Kelly's involvement. But I'll still add it to the ole netflix queue and see for myself, eventually.
The Mania Manifesto: Five Signs the Apocalypse is Upon Us - Apr 22, 2008 - 08:11pm
From what i've heard about the live action Akira it will closely follow the original manga and not the anime. For anyone who hasn't read it, it is wildly different than the anime. its a totally different story and much more intricate. I see nothing wrong w/ making a live action movie off of the manga, ither than man-boy Leo being involved.
CRANK 2 Grabs a Cast - Apr 21, 2008 - 01:44pm
I still don't see how you can have a sequal to a movie where the protaganist jumps out of a helicopter to his death at the end of part 1. Sure i enjoyed the flick, but someone please explain how that works?
Comics vs. Manga: Let's Be Friends - Apr 18, 2008 - 01:09am
I work w/ teens in a small library and i've run into many of these issues. The kids thrash the manga section every day w/ little regard for the titles. And you can forget about showing them anything that isn't Japanese. Zero interest in anything but Naruto or Goku or whoever is the latest flavor. As a huge comics fan it sucks to confront the closed minded manga fans. Don't get me wrong, I love anime almost as much as comics, but there are very few manga titles that grab my attention, or if they do its because i enjoyed the anime first. I tried reading 'BLEACH' but w/out the color or shading I quickly lost interest even though i was counting down the weeks until it came back to adult swim. I've tried "Hellsing" b/c i loved the anime but again it lacked the depth. I wanted to read "Death Note" but some punk stole the first 4 volumes. Like HunterRose it leaves me w/ some bitterness and animosity towards the fans.
Merchandising: The Search for More Money! - Apr 16, 2008 - 05:52pm
I gotta agree w/ the new format gripes. it is so, so bad. everytime they change something it only gets worse. please for the love of god change it back
McGowan is Still Set for Rodriguez's BARBARELLA? - Apr 12, 2008 - 12:55pm
The role of Barbarella should be played by someone who is believeable in going through a sexual awakening. Ms. McGowan always comes off as having been drilled more times than a 2x4
Secret Invasion: Implications and Musings - Apr 09, 2008 - 05:52pm
For once i'm skipping Marvels big event. And I don't feel bad about it. The whole idea behind it is just such a slap in the face. "we didn't mean it, everything is ok, see"
If people didn't like the stories you wrote/edited then so what. Have the balls to stand by your work. A retcon this massive is like pissing in the fans eye after taking a dump on them. Sure it might wash some of it away but it still stings.
REAPER: Acid Queen - Mar 31, 2008 - 12:57pm
I'm not totally sure what it is but this show has jumped up in quality since the writers strike. Pre-strike It never got better than ok, but i'm actually enjoying it more now.
SCI Channel Gets Upfront with New Shows! - Mar 22, 2008 - 03:24pm
I miss Dresden :(
add it to the list of gone too soon. They really should have paired it w/ something like SG: Atlantis. BSG is such a hard show that anything lighter like Dresden, Eureka or SG:A just don't fit w/ it on th esame night.
None of the new crop really has me that excited. I'll probably check it out (not the reality stuff) though at least an episode or 2 and then write it off like Flash Gordon
JERICHO: Sedition - Mar 21, 2008 - 08:01pm
I thought this was a great episode. B+ at the very least. My favorite scenes were between Beck and Heather, don't know why, they just seemed to crackle
BLOOD+ : Part 1 Boxed Set - Mar 18, 2008 - 01:11pm
I have to totally disagree. THis is one of the most boring animes i've seen for a while. I enjoyed it in the begining, the first 20 or so eps were really good and drew me in. but then about the time the opening changed i got less and less interested. It grew to the point i was only watching because it was sandwiched in between 2 other animes (on adult swim) that i wanted to watch. Saya just became too, what's the word...infuriating maybe. "i dont wanna fight, oh but i have to fight, ohh what to do?" and that final fight between Saya and Diva that was 48 eps in the making, what a let down. ugh i'll be glad when this is off adult swim.
the animation was good though
LOST: Ji Yeon - Mar 16, 2008 - 02:56pm
for once i agree w/ the rating. this episode just didn't do it for me. The flash back/forward thing was kinda neat and i was bummed to see that Jin dies. although it could be a work and he's still on the island, but i doubt it given Sun's emotions in the final scene. I was happy that they threw Hurley in there and to see he continues to be an emotional rock for the rest of the losties even after they leave. Why is it that the crazy person is often the most sane and levelheaded?
JERICHO: Termination for Cause - Mar 13, 2008 - 02:40pm
Chin up true believers, if CBS decides to cancel the ONE show i watch on their network there is a good chance of it moving to Sci-fi chanel.
I would've given the episode a B or B+ i didn't get the rushed feeling at all, i thought it moved along well and i really enjoyed it. You knew Goetz was going to die sometime (last episode i kept yelling kill him already at the screen) and i'm glad they didn't drag it out.
SEMI PRO Scores Small Victory - Mar 02, 2008 - 08:27pm
i laughed often and heartily @ Semi Pro. I'm not sure what the rest of you expected. perhaps going into the movie w/ the proper preparations helped but i thought it was dumb, funny, juvenile stuff and exactly what i was in the mood for. lighten up people its comedy.
and i'd take Will Ferrel of Judd Apatow's stuff any day. Freaks and Geeks was good but everything since has been sub-par at best
SPIRAL - Feb 16, 2008 - 12:50pm
after the utter boring stupidity of Hatchet i'll be avoiding anything this guy does like the plague.
Sympathy for the Cosplayer - Feb 14, 2008 - 11:56am
what have you got against kingdom hearts? they were both excellent games
Jericho: Reconstruction - Feb 14, 2008 - 11:51am
I really enjoyed this episode. it reminded me of why i was pissed when they first canceled it. great character moments. action that has purpose. just plain good tv.
this new company has me intrigued. the one w/ all the gov't contracts. i'm wondering if the plan behind the nukes was to start something like that all along. kinda topical given the iraq war and haliburton(cheney) getting all the acounts
Alas, Poor Yorick - Feb 06, 2008 - 03:23pm
I'm man enough to say that the last issue made me cry. The expression in the eyes of Ampersand during his last moments, just so incredibly drawn and moving.
its sad to see a book this good end, but it did so on its own terms and for that i'm grateful. bravo
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES: Gnothi Seauton - Jan 17, 2008 - 02:20pm
I gotta say i've been enjoying the show. After T3 (which i had to get drunk to get through) i haven't expected anything T related to be any good. Heck my wife even thought it was exciting. to use the parlance i'd say B+ as a whole so far, and i was expecting C work.
speaking of C work, Merrin What's w/ the Shakespeare mad-on? Are you trying to tell me that Hamlet wasn't a beautiful story? Did someone just not like HS English? I have the same problem w/ Wuthering Heights, F-ing Bronte's, its ok we all have issues :)
Oh and to the guy asking about the head? Remember the T in the bank vault, that was his head. At least that’s what I thought
Schreiber Playing Creed in WOLVERINE? - Jan 13, 2008 - 01:13am
wow, what a horrible decision. Nothing against Liev's acting chops but he is so very incredibly wrong for Sabertooth. There is a reason he was played by a giant wrestler before, Creed is a mountain of killer beast. He should be like a foot+ taller than Logan. Someone in casting needs to lay off the beerios in the morning
Navigating the Mania Map - Jan 05, 2008 - 05:55pm
i read 2 paragraphs and gave up on whatever this is supposed to be. does that make me a bad person? oh and #5 sounded like a plant, i read about the same amount of his post
A look ahead... - Jan 01, 2008 - 01:44pm
Lost Highway??? ugh, that pretentious piece of kack put me off Lynch films for life, no thank you
USA Network Cancels 4400 and DEAD ZONE - Dec 21, 2007 - 11:49am
I'm going to miss 4400. It was really building momentum w/ the season finale. We all realize shows can't run forever, but I would sure like to see more shows going out on their own terms ala Buffy, Lost, BSG.
REAPER: Cash Out - Dec 06, 2007 - 03:00pm
I keep watching, not because the show is great, but because of how little else there is on tuesdays. I saw the premier ep at comic-con and thought it was ok. my opinion hasn't changed much since then. what i really don't get is all the love for Sock, he's just not that funny.
HEROES: Powerless - Dec 05, 2007 - 04:09am
that was definitely Noah who shot Nathan. It made for a very gasp-worthy ending and i loved it. HRG 4 life.
the adds said 2 would die. but we had 2 shot and 1 blown up. I too was disapointed that Maya wasn't dead, as seems to be the consensus i just don't care about her AT ALL. Her power is boring, she's a total sucker, and no offense to the actress (she seemed genuinely nice speaking at comic-con) but i just don't see what use she is. As for Nathan. Would Peter be able to save him w/ his blood? He can mimic Claire/Adam's power, so shouldn't his blood heal as well? just a thought. And Nikki will be back. its a well known rule in comics, no body=no dead.
It was also interesting to see the brother's switch roles from last season. One being part of an ill-informed evil scheme and the other there to stop them.
does anyone else think Sylar will eventually dig up Adam and form a Brotherhood of Evil Mutants?
Seth Rogen Talks about GREEN HORNET - Nov 29, 2007 - 05:36pm
I don't see the huge fuss. I think a Rogan/Cho film could be great fun. There is a huge derth of comicbook type movies out there. A change from the normal formula would be more of a shot in the arm than a death knell. get over it people. Cho's previous films have shown that you can have great action w/ a comedic bent. not every movie has to be a dark cape & cowl affair
Director Leterrier Talks INCREDIBLE HULK - Nov 29, 2007 - 03:27am
oh and those cuts early in the film, that gave a sense of moving from panel to panel. genius. argue against it all you want but you're wrong
Director Leterrier Talks INCREDIBLE HULK - Nov 29, 2007 - 03:24am
Just because Ang Lee's version wasn't a giant @$$kicking smash-a-thon people gotta knock it. I thought it was far and away the most intelectual comic movie we've seen (prior to V for Vendetta) and conveyed that aspect of the hulk. There is WAY more to the character than blowing sh!t up.
It sounds like the new movie will be more 'Hulk Smash' and i'm down w/ that. But the first movie deserves props for trying to elevate the genre above spidey angst and snikt
HEROES: Truth and Consequences - Nov 28, 2007 - 01:09pm
re #22 It was announced on THIS site that heroes would be broken into volumes this season. At least i'm pretty sure. Kring announced this way long ago. and as another poster said the only changes made to this seeason were re-shooting the final minutes of the finale b/c of the strike.
I just had an idea of where Matt Parkman was. Perhaps he did find Victoria first. Perhaps when Adam & Peter showed up Matt put the psychic whammy on them and made them think all of what happened? just a thought.
if that's not true I have to say that the oldguard went out like chumps. They all had powers too, I woulda liked to have seen some of them use them. Linderman used his power (though i can't remember what it was) and Parkman Sr. and Whatsis name that Peter was nursing. But the rest of them haven't done anything
HEROES: Truth and Consequences - Nov 28, 2007 - 02:22am
wow, i agreed w/ almost all of the review. That hasn't happened before.
I too was wonder where Matt was. I'm sure his absense will be explained in the last episode, but it was odd.
I thought the whole Micah storyline was 100% pointless. It in no way served to setup the finale, which is what a penultimate episode should do. Don't get me wrong, I like the character and his cousin its just that this story doesn't need to be told right now and feels like a waste of valuable real-estate in the framework of this volume. Couldn't it have been done say around episode 4 or 5? Perhaps its supposed to set up events for volume 3, but since we won't get that until who knows when i felt robbed.
Statham Ready For CRANK 2 & GAME - Oct 30, 2007 - 02:32am
I enjoyed Crank. It was a fun action movie. But come on, he jumped out of a helicopter to his death at the end. Now he's got a pacemaker? makes no sense. *slaps self* sorry my logic got loose there for a moment
HEROES: The Kindness of Strangers - Oct 17, 2007 - 02:52am
#2 how exactly did Heroes rip off watchmen? The only thing i can possibly think of was Linderman & co wanting to cause devastation to bring about a new world order. If that's what your thinking watchmen didn't exactly break new ground w/ that one.
On another note: we already know what Mohinder's boss can do. He turns things to gold. remember that spoon in the 1st ep?
EURKEA: A Night in Global Dynamics - Oct 04, 2007 - 05:47pm
#4 The key to alchemy isn't a virus. If you get the formula wrong it turns on you and becomes the metal eating thing from last episode, or something else depending on how you screw it up. Think of it like this: if civilization is ready for the solution they will have it, if no they get booted back to the dark ages.
The akkasha field is like cosmic awareness, knowledge of everything, understanding of the universe on a level so fundamentally beyond our own, basically the answers to life the universe and everything.
as for the episode, i enjoyed it muchly. Henry's motivations seemd a little off character but other than that i just enjoyed the ride.
HEROES: Four Months Later - Sep 26, 2007 - 03:21am
My only complaint was the introduction of the new villain. It was almost EXACTLY the same way Sylar was introduced. All shrouded in darkness, never seeing his/her face. A kill and a disappearance. Sure s/he is taking out the old people instead, but come on, i expect more from the show. please i beg an all things holy, don't become formulaic.
I doubt Takei is really dead though, we never even saw his power, it would be a waste. I would be ok w/ the death of Mrs. Pettrelli though, i easily tire of bitchy characters
THE 4400: The Great Leap Forward Season Finale - Sep 18, 2007 - 05:27pm
Why didn't Shawn ask Jordan to take away Danny's ability? That's what Jordan does right - takes away their ability and promicin from their body. Couldn't he have just done that to Danny instead of killing him off? Sure its more dramatic, but it could have been the start of a bridge between them. just a thought
Robert Jordan Passes Away - Sep 17, 2007 - 06:08pm
aw crap. this sucks. I had heard that he was sick but i thought he was in good enough health to finish the WoT. He always said he knew exactly how it would end, lets hope that the ending stays true to that. After coming this far on the journey, it'll be sad to finish it without the guide
SUPERBAD Geeks Laugh at Competition - Aug 20, 2007 - 03:22pm
i'm suprised that Stardust isn't doing better. Saw it yesterday at a matinee showing w/ my wife and the theater was pretty full. its really a great movie, how could it not be, Gaiman is a creative genius. I think it might have done better as a winter movie though.
The Dreaded Comic-Con Recap - Aug 01, 2007 - 04:18pm
comic-con was nuts, this was the first time i've been and it was a bit overwhelming. there were as many people in that building on a given day as live in my city. One of the highlights for sure was Neil Gaiman, he's as much of a master story teller in person as he is on the page. I learned more about writing from him in 5 minutes than i did in all the writing/creativity seminars i went to. a humble genius
The Five Biggest Announcements from the San Diego Comic Con - Jul 30, 2007 - 07:17pm
How could you not have Kevin Smith writing/directing an episode of Heroes: Origins on the list? that blew my lid more than anything else you have on the list
ADULT SWIM Not at Comic Con? - Jul 05, 2007 - 04:06pm
this sucks, my first comic-con (now that i live 3hours drive away) and no AS :(
Sexton Gets LIFE - Jul 05, 2007 - 03:59pm
just finished season 3 of Deadwood on dvd. It made me sad that its over. the show was just so darn good. What ever happened w/ those 2 hour movies they were going to make. I saw the other articele where Sheriff Bullock said not to hold your breath, but damn it i want more. how could they cancel such an incredible show...
PETA Angered At SPEED RACER - Jul 03, 2007 - 03:18am
i just see the acronym peta and it makes me roll my eyes. what a bunch of spazztards, oh no monkeys are biting people, they must have been abused
The New Way to Watch TV - Jul 01, 2007 - 03:43pm
the adds for burn notice didn't interest me either. Then they played the one w/ Bruce Campbell - why they didn't tell us until a week beforehand that he would be in it i have no idea. So i watched it for Bruce. The lead guy is kinda annoying, trying waaayy too hard to be cute and likeable. i left the room during most of the scenes w/ the mother. I'll give it another chance because like previous people said, what else is on then?
EVAN Drives to Early Lead - Jun 24, 2007 - 03:27pm
#7 how could you not have seen Bad Santa. This is one of the funniest movies i've ever seen. Steve Carrel is hilarious, from his work on the Daily Show to The Office, all funny stuff. And your excited to see Waitress? now i know not to give any credence to your movie views, at least in comedy.
Cute Animals Get Canned - Jun 24, 2007 - 02:55pm
I enjoyed the finale of SG1, i'm not a longtime fan but i enjoy catching episodes here and there. Loved the montage to CCR, not enough CCR used today. I do watch Atlantis though. I think its the better show and i've enjoyed catching up on the first 2 seasons.
Buffy season 8 has been pretty good, but i think its going to get even better when BKV takes over writing duties. Its a fair trade w/ Whedon writing Runaways.
Six New HEROES Coming Soon - Jun 21, 2007 - 03:58pm
Its also possible that some of these new characters are just canon fodder ala super-hearing lady and all the others that Sylar gobled up.
as for the show having a definitive end, that's just silly. We are talking about a show based on comics. If a comic book is good it can go on for a very long time, different story arcs, new characters. Not only that but unlike BSG (which is, granted, awesome) Heroes has yet to set an endpoint to their story. They aren't trying to reach Earth. Heroes just has to have compelling stories, new villains, threats etc each year and it will stay the golden child it started out as. here's hoping
Six New HEROES Coming Soon - Jun 20, 2007 - 02:26am
I thought Sulu was kinsei. it sure looked like him in the mask. How can Sark, a blond white dude be a famous samurai. that makes zero sense. I'm also wondering how long they will keep Hiro in the past
THE BOYS #7 - Jun 09, 2007 - 04:25am
i loved the first arc but my comic shop screwed up and forgot to order my copy of #7. woe i me
Story Agrees With LOSERS - Jun 09, 2007 - 04:20am
not my first choice for director. but this comic series kicked major backside. i hope they do it justice
LOST: Through the Looking Glass - May 24, 2007 - 11:52pm
there is no way the guy in the coffin was hurley. he's just too big to fit into a normal dudes coffin. I also don't think it was locke, i don't see him leaving the island by any means other than force.
my overall impression of the ep wasn't as glowing as the rest of ya'll. frankly it was depressing. It took me a while to figure out the flash forward or whatever we're calling it. But when i saw the maps it was a dead giveaway, thankfully they didn't show them until briefly before the end. call me a sad sack but i wanted the losties to have a happy ending, and what we saw just bummed me out, its kinda like LOTR you trudge thru 9 hours of sh!t and then you get your 1/2 hour of happy time. but they set it up so we know there is no happy time. made me sad. and Charlie, he went out w/ class, but the whole time i was like either go to the moon pool room or go through the window. it didn't make me excited for next year instead it made me weary, i've watched every ep of the first 3 seasons and have faithfully stood by the show. but if everything turns out horribly wrong for the losties i will be majorly pissed.
A Light at the End of the LOST Tunnel? - May 05, 2007 - 03:05pm
ya i thought they had already announced the series would end @ 100 episodes and then a movie. Perhaps they changed their minds? But this article is like all the presidential candidates who called press conferences to say they would hold a press conference at a later date to say if they were running, jeesh
What Free Comic Book Day? - May 02, 2007 - 05:36pm
I love free comic book day. its one of those holidays that not everyone knows about but kicks ass anyway, like april 20th. For my part i try to tell every person i know who might have the slightest interest in checking out comics about it in hopes that they in turn will wander into the shops on that day and at least poke around for a spell. They might buy something, or they might run screaming from the sight of so many pale skinned geeks. Has anyone ever noticed that the best comic shops are dimly lit, bright flourescents are no good for comic shops. The absolute best though is when i see a parent w/ their kids in tow, picking up a free copy of Donald Duck, or Teen Titans, or whatever kiddie books are available that year. Warms my heart. So ya like Kurt said, its like Christmas, only better because you can choose your gifts and don't have to keep that ugly sweater from Aunt Petunia. For my part i also try to buy something extra on the day, my current store (moved states since last year) doesn't really have much in the way of trades so i'm not really sure what i'll do, back issues aren't really my thing unless its something i missed. But whatever its Free Comic Book Day, yell it from the rooftops and tell your friends. everyone likes free stuff, and the industry can always use new readers
"Heroes: .07%" - Apr 25, 2007 - 02:57am
#2 you took the words right out of my mouth. Unless Micah is just "going along w/ it" i think the writers made a rather large continuity error. I'm also wondering how many of the characters will be back next season. It might hinder the series if every new season we have a brand new slate of people to get to know. especially when it feels like sonme of the characters we're just getting to know like Ted. I welcome more characters but i hope they don't throw together a whole new cast, who knows what the chemistry between them will be, i can see things going downhill fast, but i'm still optimistic. i love the show and want more adventures
Smokin’ Aces - Apr 19, 2007 - 03:52pm
i gotta disagree, i would have given it a B- at best, more like a C. There was too little action to make it a great kinetic type of film, and not enough charachter moments to make me care. I think he tried to cram as much as possible into a directorial shotgun and the resulting splatter was the script. i was dissapointed, i wanted to like the movie more than i did.
"Jericho: A.K.A." - Apr 15, 2007 - 03:04pm
i liked the episode. I though the bits w/ Johnston were good. Why? Because what the show is really about is how would normal people react and deal w/ life after the bomb. He just lost a family member, how's he dealing w/ the death, the same way many men do, he retreats inside himself, he doesn't have any extra of himself to give to the town right now and they aren't going to get any. Just because there are dramatic themes doesn't necessarily mean that they are all soap opera moments. not everything in the world of sci-fi is rayguns and big boobs.
"Hunter-Killer" - Apr 12, 2007 - 03:43pm
i gotta agree w/ you kurt. I was left w/ a feeling of eh after reading the issue. too much time between issues, then we get several in a row, and then finishes out the run sporadically again. the whole thing felt disjointed and cobbled together
"Jericho: The Day Before" - Feb 24, 2007 - 03:07pm
i enjoyed the episode. Sure some of it was just filler, but so are the vast majority of network tv shows. I was hoping to learn more about Hawkins, but not every question needs an immediate answer. I'll take a sappy apocalypse over a hospital or law drama any day. and don't get me started on the corruption of musical vlaues that is america idol
"Lost: Stranger in a Strange Land" - Feb 23, 2007 - 01:51pm
I actually enjoyed this episode. Now while jacks tatoo has never been a mystery that i was overly concerned about, it does tell us more about who he is as a charachter. And i seriously doubt that the ad makers are that involved w/ the rest of the show, if they are that upsetting to you then ignore the ads for Hero's and Lost and just enjoy shows that we're lucky to have.
What Women Don’t Want - Feb 14, 2007 - 01:46pm
Wait when did Nextwave get cancelled? How could i have missed that? The only comic to make me laugh out loud every time i read it. I still chortle over 'drop bears'.
Throwiegate! - Feb 07, 2007 - 04:12pm
If you want to live in a world of fear, then go ahead stilldragons & william403. Personally I choose to see through the veil of deceipt Foxnews and others throw up to hide the fact that our country is going down the crapper fast because the supreme court elected a bufoon w/ an IQ of 74 and a mad-on for killing people for oil. Either get a sense of humor or go fight for your beloved President
