One keen eyed forum reader has noticed that on the Madman site, the Australian anime and movie distributor is now showcasing artwork for a Blu-ray release of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
Bandai Entertainment holds the rights to the title in the US but has been mum on a high definition release for some time. The film, originally in theaters in 2006 and on DVD from Bandai in late 2008, often gets asked about during panels and there has definitely been interest in it, and some mild teases as well, but the feature has yet to see a US Blu-ray release. If Madman is indeed getting this out for Region B Blu-ray release, hopefully it increases the chances for it here. If the Australian market can support a Blu-ray anime release like this and the US market can't, that potentially says a lot about the state of things in this country.
Plot summary:
Something strange has happened to Makoto Konno. Time has suddenly stopped and moved her backwards. With her newly discovered ability to literally leap backwards in time Makoto finds that tests become a piece of cake, embarrassing situations are corrected and she can have her favorite food anytime she wants. Unfortunately her carefree time traveling has adverse effects on the people she cares for. With every successful leap Makoto somehow alters the fate of those around her. This wasn't supposed to happen and as she races back in time to fix everything, she notices that her abilities are not limitless but with every successful jump she's one step closer to discovering the most wonderful secret in her young adult life.
