Date: Thursday, August 31, 2006

Actor Glenn Ford, who played protagonists in films such as The Blackboard Jungle, Gilda and The Big Heat, has died. He was 90.

A statement from Beverly Hills police says that paramedics were called to Ford's home just before 4 pm and found the actor deceased. Ford had suffered a series of strokes in the 1990s.

Ford was best known to the public as Clark Kent's adopted father in 1978's Superman.

Ford also had an extensive career in Westerns, usually playing the charming lawman who got the girl and the bad guy usually within the same scene.

Joseph Stefano, who wrote the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and was co-creator of TV's sci-fi anthology series The Outer Limits, also passed away at age 84 on August 25.

A great run by a wonderful actor. His last image in film was his framed photograph on the piano in Superman Returns, I think that would have amused him.

the best actors recite their lines so naturally and spontaneously that they make you forget they are acting. they suck you right into the story. Glenn Ford was one of those actors, and he was the perfect Pa Kent, a wise, gentle, loving father. it never fails to choke me up when he starts to foot-race Clark, gets that cramp in his arm and knows what is happening to him. he communicated SO MUCH with the look on his face and in the way he said "Oh, No"...Goodbye, Mr. Ford

Mr. Ford will me missed. Not many of his stature left from the "golden age" of films - Richard Widmark, Kirk Douglas...Both have to be in their nineties.

Of the hundred plus movies he's been in I've only seen a handful, but I really liked him in everyone I've seen.
Midway and Supes were some good acting. Those are the ones I remember the best.
