Cain crosses a high official of the secret society of DELILAH when he attempts to stop a massacre of socialites at the lushly restored Crimone Gardens. Later, an old nursery rhyme plays out to eerie perfection during a fateful carriage ride in the sinister "Solomon Grundy's Sunday."

The Review
Cain is moving closer to understanding his father's plan and true goals, but he's still missing some essential pieces of the puzzle. Based on a tip, he starts investigating Lord Gladstone, but almost falls victim to Gladstone's strange powers on their first meeting. Using Latisha, a beautiful orphan girl in his care who fell mute from some mysterious shock, Gladstone lures Cain to his mansion in an attempt to manipulate the situation to his own ends - ends that might not be what DELILAH intends.

Known widely to the public as a humanitarian and strong supporter of the lower classes, Lord Gladstone secretly despises them all, and is plotting the deaths of thousands of people at the opening party for the Crimone Gardens. His plans for Cain are even more sinister, and his strong powers of hypnosis seem to make the coming tragedy inevitable. Even Cain's quick wits and twisted thinking might not be enough to get all of them out of this alive, and if they survive, justice is a much trickier prospect.

This volume finishes up with a short story about a chance encounter on a train, and the story of a man who lived, married, and died all within the span of a week. After the developments in the first part of the book this story isn't bad, but it felt like it distracted from the main body of the story, which seems to have finally developed some serious momentum.

The art deserves a mention as well. Readers of Angel Sanctuary might have had some trouble adjusting to Kaori Yuki's rougher and less mature art in Cain Saga and the beginning of Godchild, but by this volume her art is as polished and skilled as her fans have come to expect. Despite a rough beginning, this series has really come a long way and developed into something that a wide range of readers can love. A more focused story and more intrigue should keep readers hooked for the rush to the end as all the pieces finally start to come together.
