The Ghost of Sparta (that's Kratos for those of you who haven't played God of War yet, and shame on you) is synonymous with the PlayStation brand. For two games, he's been the PS2's go-to Action Jackson, teeming with rage, bedding multiple huge-breasted ladies (sometimes simultaneously) and going on a tear through Sony Santa Monica's version of ancient Greek mythology.
The problem was, God of War II ended with one hell of a tease, showing Kratos riding atop a freed Titan on a quest for vengeance that would take him all the way up Mt. Olympus and right to Zeus' front door. If the previous games were any indication, he'd be leaving all manner of hacked-off limbs and heads, bashed-in skulls and cleaved torsos in the process.
Here's the thing, though: we finally got the chance to see Kratos' next-gen debut so we don't have to operate in the land of could-bes and suppositions. Instead, we've got detailed updates right from a private showing by Sony on the new combat system, new scenarios, new sense of scale... well, perhaps it'd be best if you just read our massive impressions at TotalPlayStation.

Man, I'd give my left arm to play this game now if I didn't need it to play this game. Man, if this is what PS3 games are going to look like this early in the game I can't wait to see how they're going to look in a year or two. Too bad this is the last one in the series I'd like to see what they would look like then. I wonder what Jaffe is working on since he wasn't involved in this game.
Anyone think that a war strategy game ala Starcraft or Command and Conquer set in the God of War universe would be awesome? Hopefully, I can find a way to put the idea into their heads. Hm?
Man, I hope that this co mes out this year and isn't delayed until next year like I've heard in the rumor mill.
I doubt they make the 2009 release date. I expect it in 2010.
I hope this isn't the last one in the series, they could always do prequels with Kratos time under Ares. They already did Chains of Olympus but they could set the games up prior to that one.
If it does come out this year probably wont be until holiday seaon. Sony plans to give the release date at E3 in June.
Oh yeah, plenty of good stuff on the ol' PS3 now. Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and Infamous, coming soon, plus a truckload of third party stuff that will knock our socks off this year. If you don't have a 360 either at this point you could honestly go either way. F.E.A.R. 2 is probably the most underrated game of the last six months.
God of War III is "supposed" to be the third and final game, but don't fret. Darksiders Wrath of War looks to be a good candidate for a successor, and it's 2 parts Zelda and three parts Kratos. You get to play as War, one of the four horsemen of the Apocolypse. and it's looking pretty spectacular.
That being said, I cannot wait until I can slash centaurs with the blades of Athena again. Hail Kratos!
Has Brett Ratner been distracted by other things or did Sony come to their senses about him ruining God of War as a movie? I really can't wait to see Kratos on the big screen, but I don't want Ratner anywhere near it.
Damn you sony, I don't want to shell out $400 for a system right now but it looks like I will to finish the series.
I hope it doesn't come out until 4th qrt so I can save up for it
