Adam Godley (Elizabeth:The Golden Age) and Callum Keith Rennie (Sci-Fi's Tin Man) have joined the cast of THE X-FILES 2, reports Variety. They will be starring alongside David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Xzibit, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly. Creator Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz penned the screenplay and Carter is behind the camera directing for 20th Century Fox.

No plot concept because it's being held under wraps but we know it's a stand-alone supernatural story. Production is underway in Vancouver.

THE X-FILES 2 will hit theaters July 25, 2008.

The Lone Gunmen could be brought back and they even mentioned this in the documentary that came with the Lone Gunmen DVDs, sure we saw some coffins in "Jump the Shark" but were they actually in those coffins? It's X-Files, they could bring them back easily.

In the random and probably not-important category... According to IMDB, Rennie played a part in two X-Files episodes ("Fresh Bones" and "Lazarus") as two different characters. I just wish I could remember his part in these two episodes!

Now, what about Mitch Pileggi, Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish? Not to mention the Lone Gunmen...

fft5305 - Unless you are speaking of some sort of flashback scene or a set of cloned Lone Gunmen (since it's the x-files, chances are this idea isn't impossible, but it is most likely improbable), odds are that we won't be seeing a cameo by them since they were killed off in the episode "Jump the Shark" of season 9.

Yeah. That really pissed me off. The Lone Gunman deserved better than that. Sigh.

I may not go if Mitch Pileggi is not in it. If you are going to get the band back together after all these years, get the god damned band back together. Skinner was there every step of the way and is still alive. He deserves to be in it, and I am sure that just about anyone who is a fan of the x-files (watched the whole series, start to finsih) wants him there to. I would like dogget, and some flash back to the lone gunmen, but skinner needs to be in it.

Xzibit and Amanda Peet? What the f*** kinda movie is Chris Carter making? I'm calling it now...the X-Files movie will be a disaster financially and critically. People are going to take one look at the trailer and just pass on it. Not even the fans can save it because the last two seasons of the show a lot of fans just bailed out.

As for people wanting this movie to have tons of guest stars from the X-Files past I seriously doubt this will happen. One, this movie takes place after Mulder and Scully leave the FBI. Any chance of them running into FBI agents will just muddy what's probably already a pretty full script. And, please for the love of god no flash backs CC has already convoluted what was once an interesting conspiracy enough with bee, clones, and cavemen.

Skinner isn't really a guest star. He was literally in half the episodes for the entire run of the series. I mean that is a way higher % of episodes than say chekov was in Star Trek, but people expected him in the movies. I don't think its unfair or somehow weird for fans of the series to want the series regulars to be in the movie. Quite frankly I don't have this huge crush on David Duchovny. As far as I am concerned David Duchovny alone does not an x-file make. Its the whole atmosphere of the show, which includes A) the fbi and B) the relationships, inlcuding the relationships with the peripheral characters.
I agree that this movie seems to be taking a route that is going to cause it to be a flop. If Chris Carter feels the need for some reason to boot the characters he made us like during the show (skinner, Kersh, Dogget, the dead gunment) then just have it be mulder and skully. Please don't try to convince us that teaming up with Amanda Peet and some rapper is cool plan.

The Gunmen are dead, definatively, time to move on. They have plenty of living characters to use: Doggett, Reyes, Skinner, Kersh, Marita Covarrubias, Gibson Praise, Arthur Dales, Jeffrey Spender, Jeremiah Smith. These characters are mostly tied up with the mythology, but they could be used in this stand-alone movie.
