Good Breakdown of WOLVERINE Details

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Friday, August 03, 2007
Source: Wizard

With facts on the WOLVERINE movie all over place all thanks to it sitting in development hell for so long, it's refreshing to see someone put everything in perspective. Rickey Purdin over at Wizard did just that, updating everyone on what we know about this project and what will be transpiring for Hugh Jackman's clawed & flawed character.

What do we know for a fact?

The project is still expecting to be released in 2008 by Fox. Gavin Hood (Oscar Winning director of Tsotsi ) has been chosen as the director. David Benioff (a big fan of the X-Men comic series) is writing the screenplay. When Benioff was asked which themes will show up in this next film, he responded... “I went back and reread the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries, and the Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X.”

What do we know is likely happening but not a confirmed fact?

Tyler Mane (the new Michael Myers) may be reprising his role as Victor Creed/Sabertooth in this next film. The character of Stryker will be appearing in the film. We don't know if that means Bryan Cox (who originally portrayed him) will be there but the character may be appearing.

WOLVERINE hits theaters sometime in 2008.

This sounds very cool and all, but what looks
good on paper. . .well, you know the rest.
At least the sources that are being used will
sreve them well IF they adhere closely to said sources. Meanwhile, maybe if Miller isn't
too busy, perhaps he could be persuaded to
help with the screenplay. That would be a
huge asset.

I agree Film (even with your name too), bring Miller in if they can. Also, maybe it is just me but the wreck that Ratner left X3 in just, well, the best way I can say it is bring back Singer. At least the guy had the right frame of mind and talent to make the first two X movies look great and flow right.
I do like the return of Sabertooth idea. Always wanted him to come back in the X Men movies.

I'd like to see the movie centered around Logan's experiences in japan with maybe a subplot flashing back to his time in the Weapon X program. I hope the director is good with action, because Logan has to kick some butt in this film. If the movie is just Logan moping around trying to discover his past, it's going to bore the hell out of me. I think they should have gotten a director out of Hong Kong with a lot of martial arts epics under his belt and then put Wolverine in Madripor and Japan battling The Hand. I know the movie won't be R rated, but hopefully a strong PG-13.

Looks like I'm the only one who was ever bored to tears with the Japanese storylines. Oh well. I've always liked the Weapon X stuff better. Ever since the first comic I ever bought, "Wolverine #50". Also the Weapon X stuff might allow them to introduce more characters such as Deadpool and Kane. Anyway, I'll see the movie regardless.

Are they rushing this just like they did with X3? I hope not, I wanna see a good Wolverine flick. I'm glad Sabretooth is making his way back although I would've liked his look to be even more vicious than what it was.
2008 is going to be a great year for comic book fillms if Wolverine gets a release date in the same year. Batman, Hulk, IronMan and this. Sweet. I think summer will be a bit crowded maybe Wolverine should wait for Christmas to come out.

Bryan Cox better not be in the movie unless they do that de-aging crap like they did in X3.

I thought Tsotsi was the least challenging foreign film of 2005 -- far less original and honest than the Palestinian film, Paradise Now. Anyway, that they're going with a more independent film type director is interesting. I was worried Len Wiseman would do this. Wolverine's character has to be the center, not just action.

No inclusion of Alpha Flight and Department H in either mention or cameo and this movie doesn't get my notice much less hard earned dollars for a movie visit or a DVD buy.

You ignore the Alpha Flight references while promoting the X-Men ones and this movie fails to stay true to the mythos of Wolverine.

Wolverine's origins must include his involvement with Alpha Flight and Heather and MacDonald Hudson. Even only in mention as an agent.

It's part of Wolverine's character continuity. Besides showing glimpses of Alpha Flight (Vindicator, Sasquach, Shaman, Snowbird, Aurora, Northstar, Puck and Talisman) would act as as a springboard for their own movie eventually.

It's been my fan dream to see Alpha Flight hit the big screen so I constantly hold out to see this happen.

To include Alpha Flight in Wolverine's movie is a poetic bow to both his Canadian origins like the old Ghost Rider teamed up with Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider in the Ghost Rider movie.

It's the "right" thing to do.

Wolverine should be another trilogy.
