Gord Of War

Welcome to the Countdown, where a year passes and the writer gets a plus one to his age bonus. This week most new games were delayed from being put out shelves all because of a game that turned into a juggernaut. For those who are unable to guess which game, of course I am talking about God of War 2. The original was a fun game and everything indicates that this follow-up will be another hit. Anyways, I will not bore you with these details any longer.

God of War 2 (PS2) - Obviously everyone expects this game to be a hit since it set the industry with the last incarnation. It was short but it was sweet, though it involved a lot of elements from other games and implemented them fantastically. The game was so sweet that you would probably lose a tooth or two. Of all the games on this list I totally agree that this is number one by far. So this week God of War 2 gets the nod for Game of the Week.

Call of Duty 3: Roads to Victory (PSP) - Call of Duty has always had a fantastic franchise, and the PSP continues to get a lot of shooters. This would probably be the best franchise to move over to the PSP since it always has tight control. It will be interesting to see how well the game will fare on the system with only one analog stick. One thing is for sure though, and that is you can never go wrong with a Call of Duty game.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (PSP) - Well if you are not into shooters the PSP also does a fairly good job with sports games. Here you can relive Tiger Woods in all of his glory for another year, which works fairly well on the PSP. I think that the Tiger Woods series is starting to go a little stale though, so hopefully they can push one out with this game.

Mind Quiz: Your Brain Coach (DS) - Something that the DS has done a fantastic job with involves the out of the box styled games. Games where they challenge your mind by providing a bunch of little puzzles to amuse yourself with. With publishers jumping on the bandwagon, we have another team trying to capitalize Brain Age’s success, and so we have another game in that vein. They have been fairly entertaining in the past, and so it should be quite fun.

Herbie Rescue Rally DS (DS) - Well... I am trying to be nice here, so I will say that this is not only a movie game but it also a driving game. The DS really only has one game that deals with driving well, and that is Mario Kart. I am going to guess this game is no where near the quality of Mario Kart, so if you are going to spend your money... Spend it right.

This wraps up this week. I would have loved to see a lot more games, but everyone seems to have the fear of God in them. Alas though, this week will be pretty boring if you are not into God of War 2, but you could always refer to previous Countdowns to find out other recent games that you should pick up. Anyway… This Captain Gordon -- a year older -- signing off.
