Gordian Recon

Welcome to the Countdown, which makes next week a little easier to stand. Another week makes their way upon us, and another week we have many quality games at our disposal. March is looking great so far, even if we only look at the non-Nintendo consoles. Honestly Nintendo is still in part of their Nintendrought (TM) of the early year. I am curious if developers actually believed that it was going to be as popular as it is, and so they did not plan for early year game releases. Anyways, enough with this babbling...

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PS2) - A few years ago Grand Theft Auto: Vice City made its way to the PS2, which probably had the best soundtrack of all of their series. But as with a trend on the PSP system, a new game was created from the older series and ported to the system. Now the PS2 is getting a port of a PSP game that was ported from the PS2. Of course there is a different storyline, and the game was quite fun. If you are a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series you should pick it up.

Burnout Dominator (PS2 - PSP) - Following up to their previous incarnations, Burnout Dominator brings the excitement to crashing cars and racing. Generally a very beautiful game, you probably cannot go wrong if you are looking for that as a main feature in the game.

Carol Vorderman's Sudoku (PS2 - PSP) - Do you love Sudoku? Well... I guess I will not need to tell you about this game... Will I? The plot of the game is to solve Sudoku puzzles by the bucketful.

Pimp My Ride (PSP) - A while back we were -- lucky -- enough to get the game for the Xbox 360, which had pretty easy achievements. Now we see that it has been ported to the PSP, which is great for fans of the show. Be prepared to ghost ride the whip on the go. At least the game has a pretty good soundtrack.

Def Jam Icon (PS3) - Continuing with games that should have good soundtracks, Def Jam should follow in their own footsteps as they release another rap battle game. Of course these rap battles have to do with battling rappers, not rapping ability. Something interesting about the game is that you seem to get a boost if you battle along to the beat of the music. Sounds like an interesting idea... But it slows down gameplay.

MotorStorm (PS3) - Here we have Sony's main racing game, probably for the year. It features racers of all types, car, motorcycle, or truck, going all out trying to win the race. If you have a PS3, well you probably have played the demo. If you actually ever played a PS3, this was probably the game you first played. It is fairly fun, but I think you crash your vehicles a little too easily.

Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter 2 (Xbox 360 - PC) - The award winning series continues on the X-Box 360 with a follow up to Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter. Taking place near the Mexican and US border, on the freshly created border wall, the soldiers find out that a new threat on the way and they only have 72 hours to eliminate it. It should be a great game if the original has anything to do with it, and so I give it my nod for Game of the Week.

Wario: Master of Disguise (DS) - For fans of Wario, you pretty much know his story all ready. He is a troublemaker who is all about making everything weird. The story for this game though when Wario sees a television series about a thieving master of disguises, he dives into the television and steals the thief’s magical wand, but then also takes over the show. It sounds pretty fun and so it should be worth picking up.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (DS) - Rayman is once again thrusted into the world of Rabbids, where he must complete many minigames to break out and save his world from this rascally rabbids. The games are quite fun, so you might as well give it a shot.

Well that is all we had this week. It seems near the end of March a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 4 will be available. With Crackdown providing an interesting alternative to this series, I wonder what they have up their sleeve to keep the lead. Anyways, this is Captain Gordon signing off.

Hmm . . . not one game that holds any interest for me personally, sadly.

Between the glut of GTA clones, FPS's, and MMORPG's . . . I've been a very sad gamer for years now.

Lucky for me the adventure game is sorta making a comeback on the PC with Adventure Company games like Syberia and Still Life.

Someday I'll have to get a PS something for the backlog of RPG's I've always wanted to play, too.

About all I'm waiting on now is Bioware games and the lastest in the X-Men Legends / Marvel Ultimate Alliance series.

The post-Christmas drought is always a bit depressing. It's made worse by the fact the Wii is still a new console (and you're right, I bet developers had no idea it was going to be so popular) and will take another six months or so to find its bearings. Now's a good time for me to be broke, I guess.

MotorStorm is one game I might get, because even the extremely limited demo is really cool, and I've beenb playing it for three months now.
Merin, I have to agree that I am also waiting for the next in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, as I just finished the game and I want more- so addictive. Altho, I'm wondering if I truly finished it, because I was told i n the end that I should have saved Nightcrawler, among other things, but that as a HERO I can change what I have done... HOW? Do they mean by just restarting the game? If there is more, I want it.

I've played MUA twice, basboy, saving Nightcrawler the first time and Phoenix the second. Both are "bad" endings, there's no winning that decision.

One ending is MORE bad than the other, sure . . . but neither are good for the X-Men.

I'm an RPG fan first and foremost, and after that I enjoy action/adventure games. I least enjoy sports, racing, and FPS games.

Well a few on this list seem quite interesting, like GWAR 2, MotorStorm and Wario.

As for general Wii stuff though, I am getting a little tired of ports of regular games from the other systems, mainly the movie ones, which think by slapping on a fresh coat of paint (by changing the control scheme) that they can try and make full release money. After playing Rampage I totally wag my finger at that.
