HITFIX is reporting that Neil Gaiman’s ever popular character will finally be making the leap to the big screen. To headline the project Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Don Jon) will play the title character. HITFIX is also confirming that David Goyer (Man of Steel) will be co-producing.

The question now is, which Sandman story will it be?

Sandman first appeared in DC Comics in January of 1999. By issue #47 the title went under DC Comics’s brand Vertigo Comics and became a tent pole for the publisher.

The Vertigo Biography on Sandman:The Sandman is the universally lauded masterwork following Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming—a vast hallucinatory landscape housing all the dreams of any and everyone who’s ever existed. Regardless of cultures or historical eras, all dreamers visit Morpheus’ realm— be they gods, demons, muses, mythical creatures, or simply humans who teach Morpheus some surprising lessons.

Upon his escape from an embarrassing captivity at the hands of a mere mortal, Morpheus finds himself at a crossroads, forced to deal with the enormous changes within both himself and his realm. His journey to find his place in a world that’s drastically changed takes him through mythical worlds to retrieve his old heirlooms, the back roads of America for a twisted reunion, and even Hell itself—to receive the dubious honor of picking the next Devil. But he’ll learn his greatest lessons at the hands of his own family, the Endless, who—like him—are walking embodiments of the most influential aspects of existence”.

Sweet. He's a great actor and even though I haven't seen Don Juan or whatever I bet he has the potential to be a great director. He's talented in other areas outsdide of acting and he's been in the biz almost all his life.

He's a fine actor, but seriously...I'm not sure it's possible to mention a proposed comic book movie anymore these days without mentioning him.

Cool, but had really hoped for a Cumberbatch.  Benedict Q. Cumberbatch.  I assume his middle name begins with "Q" otherwise I feel empty inside.

Cobra commander always seems to be smiling when there is no need.  That's the first sign not to trust somebody to me.  I don't go out of my way to see his movies.  He won a few points for me with Messager and Looper, I might watch Don don on cable since the story seems interesting on what I am going through in the trailers.  Except for the women part.

Good move for the gay community. They were robbed of a gay Batman so I guess this'll do

JGL is a good actor so I think he'll do fine. He was good in Don Jon and Hesher to name a couple but The Lookout is still my fave of his films

I've never read Sandman despite people always telling me how great the book is so this should be good news. JGL always seems to do only high quality projects from what I can tell so it will be cool to see what he does with an FX laden genre project.

Wise, is he gay? I really haven't heard anything about his love life on any of the gossip type mags and sites so I don't know. Doesn't matter to me anyway.

Wise - The Lookout was great, but I think his best performance was Mysterious Skin.

I am interested to see how he does as director for this movie.

Now this is awesome news I can get behind. JGL is a good actor, Goyer is a good writers, and Sandman kicks ass. I am very excited to hear more about this project.

I have never read this comic so I have no opinion on JGL playing him/it. Story sounds slightly interesting though.

This movie if done correctly could be mind blowing. I hope Goyer's involvement means they're taking it seriously guess time will tell.
