Ryan Gosling has been let go from Peter Jackson's THE LOVELY BONES production in favor of thespian Mark Wahlberg. The move was instigated by Ryan vacating the role one day before production was set to begin even though he gained 20 lbs and grew a beard for the project. Variety is stating he's out because of "creative differences". After reading the script on Sunday, Wahlberg agreed to fill in the spot as the father to the deceased girls (central character). He'll be right there alongside Rachel Weisz who is portraying the mother. Jackson and partner Fran Walsh developed the script based off an Alice Sebold novel. Wahlberg won't be traveling far for this production which begins today. He just wrapped up his shooting of M. Night Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING in Pennslyvania, the same location where Peter Jackson is set to begin his shoots.

Plot Concept: Centers on a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches over her family and her killer from heaven.

Interesting, I wonder what kind of "creative differences" he had with Jackson? I`ve heard that he was a pretty easy director to work with, although he does know what he wants which in most cases is a good thing.

A smuch as I like Walhberg, he is no where near the same level of actor as Gosling. Gosling is an actor's actor, where Wahlberg is just an actor. I am not bashing Walhberg, because I love his work, I just would have rather seen Gosling in this. I think he would have had more of an impact than the soft spoken Wahlberg. Well, i am sure it will be good just the same as PJ always delivers the goods.

Does this mean he dropped out to pursue a role as Batman or other Justice Leaguer for the JL movie?

Sounds too much like Ghost.
Remember Stuart Townsend? If I recall correctly he withdrew from LOTR because of creative differences with Jackson for the role of Aragorn. Think he regrets that now?

Well, loved Walhberg's work in the Departed. And I think the really crucial casting choices would be the killer and the dead girl anyway. As long as PJs still directing I'm sure it'll be great.

And as I recall the book was a bit more complex and dark than Ghost.

Stuart Townsend? I think that situation worked for the best. I can't see anyone but Viggo doing that role justice.

And even if he had we mightb never have gotten A History of Violence and Eastern Promises which as the former was doubtless an easier sell for Cronewberg with Viggo's post LOTR fame, and that in turn paved the way for the latter.

What's up with Hollywood making all of these gloomy and depressing death obsessed films these days??? Give me something that celebrates life and happyness...and the positive light therein.

They did make those happy life affirming films. They were called Knocked Up, Superbad and Shoot 'Em Up.

And Death at a Funeral.

mbeckham, Don't try, This article could've been about lighthearted films, and Metal would've complained that Hollywood is making too many light hearted Happy films. And asked where all the real dark and gritty films are.
I have yet to see a positive post from Metal.
