With the casting of Ben Mckenzie, as Detective James Gordon on Gotham, the Batman TV series prequel, we knew the rest of the cast would fall into place. Variety has reported on who will play the Penguin, Alfred, Gordon’s fiance, and the Captain of Gotham’s Police Department.

“Robin Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot, or the man better known as DC Comics villain the Penguin. With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor”.

“Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, will be played by Sean Pertwee. A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman”.

“Zabryna Guevara has been cast as Captain Essen, Detective Gordon’s boss at the Gotham City Police Department Homicide Squad. Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop”.

“Erin Richards will play Barbara Kean, the fiance of Detective Gordon (Ben McKenzie). A sophisticated emergency doctor”.

Bruno Heller has written the pilot script for Gotham. The series takes place years before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. The role of Bruce Wayne has yet to be cast. The series will air on FOX.

What do you think Maniacs? It is coming along pretty quickly. I have never heard of Robin Lord Taylor before, but he has the right look.

I have a hard time imagining this being good.  I can't help but think of Smallville every time this comes up.  Hope I am wrong

My body is ready.

xpaladinx... intially I thought Birds of Prey... which had so much potential and was terrible. I think Arrow is leading the way.

I want to like this but I too keep thinking of Smallville territory,

The classic "no tights, no flights" saying they had limited the show.

It would be cool if this show served as the prequel to Batfleck.  We all know his Bats will be "old" and worn out after so many battles. It would be cool if this young Bruce Wayne was the Affleck Bruce when he was a kid.

What's he deal the with the recent trend of making Barbara Gordon Jim Gordon's wife?  It this something DC has changed in the comics as well?

redhairs- Barbara Kean Gordon was Gordon's first wife. 15 seconds on wikipedia. That's all it took.

I can dig that Bazzy.

I want someone to do Gotham High,  If I had money, I would fund that show to get made.

ElBaz13 2/12/2014 10:47:03 AM

Well, there is a Monster High (children of monsters) and now Ever After High (children of fairy tale characters) why not a Gotham High? LOL!

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle's daughter tries to fit in high school and hangs around with the class clown (Joker and Harley's son) and butts heads with her rival, the daughter of Talia Al Ghull.

Can you tell I have 2 girls?

Dude, there was a Gotham High that was going to get made.  Google it, you'll get some pictures.  It was young Bruce and his rogue gallery, with each villain being a high school stereotype (Riddler the nerd, Joker class clown, etc.)  It hurts me everytime I think it got canceled.  Might've been balls but damnit I wanted to see it.

lazarus 2/12/2014 10:58:00 AM

And like all things Fox it will last about 1 to 2 seasons and just as it is getting good it will be canceled.

Why is this not on WB? Is DC actually serious about creating a combined universe? We shall see. They could actually have some of the JSA in this. The Allen Scott Green Lantern and other members. See I just used 2 gay puns there. LOL.
