Batman: Gotham Knight is a fresh and exciting new entry into the Batman mythos, spinning out of a 40-year history in animation including the Emmy®-winning Batman: The Animated Series, widely considered a pivotal moment in American animation. A cross section of distinguished creators, award winning producers, and acclaimed writers weave six interlocking stories that reveal Bruce Wayne’s journey to Dark Knight, each with stylish art from some of the world’s most revered animation visionaries.

Batman: Gotham Knight was headed by an impressive list of directors who have brought their distinctly different anime styles to the classic Batman character. The production was divided among three renowned studios – Studio 4ºC, Production I.G and Madhouse – and included the truly inimitable visions of directors Shojiro Nishimi, Futoshi Higashide, Hiroshi Morioka, Yasuhiro Aoki and Toshiyuki Kubooka. With stories written by several of the most talented writers of film, comic books, and animation, including Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Josh Olson (A History of Violence), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Emmy®-winner Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series), Jordan Goldberg (Associate Producer, The Dark Knight), and award-winning comics writers Greg Rucka and Brian Azzarello, Batman: Gotham Knight presents thrilling new adventures of Batman that spotlight several of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains, including the fearsome Scarecrow, the freakish Killer Croc and the unnerving marksman known as Deadshot. Batman: Gotham Knight is produced by Emma Thomas (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Michael Uslan & Benjamin Melniker (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Toshi Hiruma and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).

Justice League New Frontier is better than any Marvel animated film and this will be just as great.

But $24.95 is to much for a straight DVD, I respect the effort but for that price I want a 2 hour animated film. Why do most animated films run for less than an hour and a half?

hanso • Feb 25, 2008, 01:09pm •
Those prices that come out on the press releases are never the ones that are in the stores Sony. Don't worry I'm sure it will be around $15-$20 like the Doomsday:Superman movie was. I hope Gotham Knight has better animation than the Superman flick cause I didn't like those lines in Superman's face.

I got JL: New Frontier on my queque list hopefully I can get it this week.

Side note: Best Buy has the Ultimate Avengers and Iron Man dvds for $4.

I only paid $9.99 for Iron Man and Dr Strange.. didnt care much about The Avengers movies so they were just rentals... they are similar to the same style as the GI JOE cartoons (as opposed to the Bruce Timm style which is vastly different from the Marvel universe line)
$24.99 is "retail price" you hsould NEVER pay retail price.. thats like suggested selling price but you can always find it cheaper.
my question is the Batman The Animated Series picture that Mania posted with this article is not GOTHAM KNIGHTS which is pure anime... maybe there is no press photos yet for Batman Gotham Knights (although I've seen a trailer myself over on the official site) but Gotham Knights wont be the Bruce Timm style.
I saw New Frontier at the Wondercon this weekend, it is amazing!

I love Batman and was an avid watcher of the animated series... but I just don't think I'll be picking this up. I've tried... I really have... But I just have a universal dislike of nearly everything Anime. There just always seems to be something about it that I truly do not like.

Having seen New Frontiers (yesterday) and having read the comic that it's based on, the comic is infinitely better than the movie.

The movie was a bit heavy-handed and cheesy in quite a few spots, and a lot of it was unintentional humor. It was weird because they start off with multiple scenes of death and dying within the first five minutes, yet have this odd overly-jingoistic (which went straight into parody) feeling later in the movie.

Anyway, with that said, I'm looking forward to Gotham Knight. I saw the trailer for it at Wondercon, and it looks very nice.

Man I am looking foward to this, and I will definitely be picking it up, its essentially a tie in with the new Batman movie, kind of like the Animatrix was for the Matix movies, and the Animatrix was pretty awesome.

I'm a huge Anime fan and all I can say is this will definitely be on my Buy List.

I will be skipping this DVD. I saw a feature on the making of Batman: Gotham Knights and I didn't like the animation at all, but then I'm not a fan of anime at all. I think the only anime I ever liked was Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets when I was a kid. After years of watching Timm's animated series I don't think anything would match up to that. I'm looking forward to picking up New Frontiers tomorrow.

WISEGUY562 • Feb 25, 2008, 10:08pm •
Despite my hatred for all anime I will be buying this because it is Batman afterall. But I am tired of the whole anime look. It is my biggest pet peeve of the FF cartoon. Even though it's french it still has that anime look.

ponyboy76 • Feb 26, 2008, 03:14am •
The animation on most of the stories were pretty sweet. i`ll definitely get this.
I watched Justice League: New Frontier the other day and it was pretty good.
