Will it work?

Fox chairman, Kevin Reilly, has announced that not only will the new Gotham Series have a young Bruce Wayne, but a few classic villains as well. All this was reported on “The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale),” Reilly said. “Also on tap are the Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin. ‘We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge,’ Reilly said. ‘It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality’.”

The series has been given the green light for an official pilot. The series is being supervised by The Mentalist’s Bruno Heller. Danny Cannon will be directing the pilot.

Can't see how having the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penquin would work without having Batman in it.  That sounds very anti-climactic to me.  I think they seriously need to rethink this approach.

I'm in. I enjoy an extended reveal. Why not do something different with the old gang. I am looking forward to seeing what they do.

Starts at 12 and goes until he puts on the cape in the finale?  I guess they're optimistic about the length of their run, or they'll have to use multiple actors to cover the span of years for the 13 episodes until it gets cancelled.  Jim Gordon vs. The Riddler?  Law & Order: Superheroes Unit?  Just not seeing it.

I will remain open on this idea....

The Penguin?  A crime boss with bird fixation?  I could see him being around even before Batman came on the scene.  The Riddler seems a bit of a stretch, but possible.  But Catwoman?  Unless they're going to introduce her as a teen fairly late in the series, I don't see it.
