Screenwriter David Goyer (Batman, Blade films) is moving into the novel market with his first genre book Heaven's Shadow and yet he's still getting it to the silver screen. Deadline NY reports that Warner Bros. has grabbed the theatrical rights to his first science fiction novel, with the option to turn it into a possible trilogy franchise for the studio.

The first novel will hit book stores July 2011 with its sequels "Heaven's War" and "Heaven's Fall" set for 2012 and 2013 releases. Goyer is currently working on the next Superman revision for the studio.

While little specifics have been given for "Heaven's Shadow," the story is reported as centering on an extraterrestrial object en route to Earth and the ensuing reaction on the part of mankind.

I don't have much faith in Goyer after the bore-fest that was Flashforward.

Goyer is okay as long as he's not the only person writing it.  He does better with a team and as much as I didn't like Flashforward I read there were a lot of internal problems on that show including the writers so hard to say how much of that was his fault.

Never watched Flashforward, but The Unborn was decent.  Actually had some pretty creepy scenes.

I like Goyer's writing and plot ideas. Not so much his directing. Probably will be a good novel.

Are you kidding me Flashforward was awesome. Sad that it had to end so quickly!!

Wiseguy 8/24/2010 9:24:19 AM

I've always liked Goyer as long as he's not directing. Then again maybe he hasn't found his muse yet and this could be it

Flash Forward was excellent. I have faith in Goyer's writing, just not his directing. Not that it's awful, just not great. I know I'm in the minority of people who actually enjoyed Blade: Trinity. It wasn't as good as the previous movies, but I liked it. Might've had something to do with the hotness that is Jessica Biel...

I take it no one got the memo about Flash Forward, it's been renewed by another channel.

I like Goyer's writing and directing style but I can see why some people don't like it. I'm not picky nor perfect either. Just aspect his flaws and move on, I do.

Is that wishful thinking on your part todd or do you know something for sure?  Last I read Starz was looking to buy the rights to it but that was a month ago and I haven't heard anything since.   I would say its a long shot as some of those actors probably got other jobs by now.

Sounds cool. Goyer's all right by me. His work on Batman, Blade, JSA, Flashforward & the Unborn speaks for itself. I'll definitely give these novels a look-see.
