GRAYSONS show falls to its death

CW axes plans for Batman-spinoff

Mob Boss Anthony Zucco strikes again! Or perhaps it's the work of jittery TV executives or the hand of corporate parents looking to protect their intellectual properties, but word in today's Variety is that plans for the Batman-spin-off TV series 'The Graysons' have been scrapped.

Although a pilot was just recently announced, Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov has put the kibosh on the show, which would have followed young Dick Grayson on his journey to becoming Batman's sidekick.

According to the report, Warner TV didn't secure proper clearance for the show, which could potentially impact the viability of the company's other bat-plans.

Studio insiders told Variety that Robinov has decreed that Warner Bros. "rethink its DC Comics strategy," which meant putting the brakes on the show.

"The studio has opted not to go forward with the development of 'The Graysons' at this time as the concept doesn't fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise," the studio said in a statement. "Warner Bros. Television is currently working on several replacement options for the CW."

As with the failed 'Justice League' project, whispers behind the scenes indicate director Christopher Nolan was uncomfortable with how the show might impact his big-screen Batman franchise.

Warner TV is looking to offer another high-profile property to The CW to make up for the injury, but likely one based on past TV franchises and not DC Comics.

This is actually some good news. Why would they give a show dedicated to the world's most famous, favorite sidekick? It just didn't make sense. And us Smallville fans have been screaming for years to have Bruce Wayne guest star and WB/CW answer to that was a show about Dick Grayson?

But I'll tell you what I hate and it's how "whispers behind the scenes indicate director Christopher Nolan was uncomfortable with how the show might impact his big-screen Batman franchise."

If this is true, then screw Nolan. Listen, I loved what this guy has done with Batman. He's taken it to the serious level it needed to be taken. However, WB/CW should have turned a deaf ear if he was complaining about a Robin show if he's only concern was how it was going to effect his Bat-films. Because we all know that Nolan has no love for Robin.

Besides, just like Smallville is in a different universe than the Superman movies, clearly "The Graysons" would be in a very different universe than Nolan's Bat-films and us fans would know the difference. Nolan would have no need to worry.

The WB/CW should have told Nolan "Thanks for your concerns, but just stick to the Bat-films we're paying you for."

Getting back to "The Grayson's" I don't think a show like that would carry beyond the first season. From what I understand, Dick Grayson's parents are alive, so I don't see how he's going to be preparing to be Batman's partner if he has no need nor motivation for it. From what I've read, it would focus on Dick "DJ" Grayson finding his place in the world.

But isn't that like the rest of the WB/CW shows? Personally, I'm getting sick of the "teen drama." Less drama and more action please.

Hilarious.  Great title for the article.

If they want a Grason show just pick up the fan film and make it a weekly series as Grayson puts the costume back on to find Batman's killer. The possiblities there are endless.

And if they want to find something to fill the Smallville hole next season I do believe several Aquaman eppisodes have already been filmed. Pick up where you left off and give it a go.

Or does that make too much sense?

Well. So there is intelligent life on this planet after all?  Now they have to cancel "Batman: The Brave And The Bolt" too and life on earth has the potential to rise beyond it's limitations.

;-)

Buddah Be Praised!

I think we had enough about teen drama to last years on DVD and at Nickatnightathon.

So what don't villans have a begining as well? Why not explore that angle DC has a plethora of villans could be done in two part epsiodes to tell there story. Could be like that show a while back the Outer Limits or Twilight Zone and some how all connected. Then we have no need for teen drama! Enter D.C's Villans.

Or they could just make an action show of  Mortal Kombat vs. D.C that would be hilarious!

OBAMA DID BRING CHANGE!!!!!

I can see no one's shedding any tears. But if they wanted to do something ala Smallville Aquaman's revised origin would've been perfect as we see Arthur's father working as a light keeper and Arthur's adventures living by the shore, rescuing many a damsels in distress, ships and the environment. And how he meets and befriends the young man that would later become Black Manta.
I think  this would totally work

The show was probably gonna suck but I'll take The Graysons over whatever the hell WB is going to try to remake now from a back  in the day show.  At least The Graysons would've been something new.

Wiseguy is right, Aquaman was the way to go and now that Robin is down, I dont see why they can't bring Aquaman back.  The pilot they shot for Aquaman being near the Bermuda triangle was good.  WB please make Aquaman instead of remaking some old shit

I think The Grayson's could've worked if they would've dealt with a young Dick Grayson and his Nightwing mythology instead of his Robin one which wouldn't have worked without the Bat.  They could've brought in some of the Nightwing villains, sneak in Batgirl, just like they do in Smallville.

On the Nolan comment, I think that's bullshit.  Don't see why he would care what's going on in TV land just like I don't see WB caring what Nolan thinks about their TV projects.  WB didn't care about Singer's thoughts when he was doing SR and Smallville was going on at the same time.  Plus, Batman wasn't going to be on The Graysons and Robin isn't going to be showing up in Nolan's Batman.  So again, it's probably bullshit.

As I understand it, Wayne on Smallville was never an issue of lack of desire to have him on the show, it was a matter of legal rights.  There's some sort of legal reason that they can't use the Bruce Wayne character. That's why they've made Oliver Queen basically the same character as Bruce.  I am surprised they were able to use Dick Grayson, but not Bruce Wayned.  I would imagine that fan reaction had to have some impact on the decision to can this idea. I don't think anyone really thought this was a good idea.  blyndjustyce, I had the same thought when they first announced this idea. They should just hire the guy who did Grayson and let him make a series out of it.
