Believe it or not... The Greatest American Hero is going to return to television. Deadline.com reported the exclusive story that the Eighties TV series will get a reboot with The Lego Movie creators at the helm. Phil Lord and Chris Miller will the be executive producers behind the hour long comedic superhero series.

The plot of the pilot for the doesn’t sound all that different: “the new Greatest American Hero will chronicle inner-city teacher Isaac’s adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit that gives him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suit’s instructions. He also has to deal with a government handler who has very different objectives than him and struggles as to whether he should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself".

The original series featured William Kat in the title role and Robert Kulp played his government agent. The original series which aired from 1981 to 1983 had three seasons and spawned a dreadful spin off in 1986 called The Greatest American Heroine

I just mentioned this in the Tick thread and minutes later this report pops up.  Now I'll wait and see if you have anything to say about rumors that Joaquin Phoenix is about to sign on to play Dr. Strange and the most preposterous rumor of all this past week that Shaemus the red haired irish wrestler from the WWE is set play Darth Vader.

@Blankczech the website that reported the Joaquin Phoenix rumor is now back peddling on that. Saying that he only met with the Marvel people and that the reports that he was in final talks are premature.  Even EW picked up on the rumor but have since taken the article down.

Okay I am genuinely excited by this if they do two things. 1 is have William Kat back on as the original and perhaps provide some advice to the new guy. 2 Give him a mask or something to disguise his appearance. KEEP  THE  SUIT  THE  SAME!

So obvious cast would be Bruce Campbell for the Robert Kulp role.

Whether they chose someone like Bruce Campbell as the G-man handler would depend on how they will do this new show. Will it be light-hearted and funlike the original series? Then Campbell would work. But they may go the real and gritty route of most superhero projects now and he wouldn't work for that.

I loved this show as a kid so, naturally, I'm incredibly nervous about how this will be handled. Plus, Fox does not have a good history of letting shows find their footing.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will succeed...and that William Katt will have a cameo in the pilot.
