In a strange twist of timing, Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed two new banners showing off CGI characters from Green Lantern on the same day the trades report the studio has approved more cash for CGI effects in post-production. Variety provided a piece on the studios scrambling with special effects work on this summer's slate of tent poles with the Martin Campbell-directed adventure being one of those projects that Warner Bros. Pictures has given an extra $9 million in cash to touch up some last minute effects on the release. Check out the piece on how the special FX industry is in overdrive right here.

And check out the two new character banners centering on Sinestro (Mark Strong) and Kilowog (Michael Clarke Duncan) down below courtesy of Yahoo Movies.

The adventure stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Geoffrey Rush, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi and Jon Tenney. Director Martin Campbell led from the helm, based on a screenplay by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg.

Plot Concept: In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Green Lantern will fly into 3D/2D theaters June 17, 2011.

well looks like someone behind the scenes thought the same about the cgi looking a bit cheap. i'm still looking forward to this and hoping the best as this will be one of the biggest summer of blockbusters in a long time.

9 million seems a bit much for just a "touch up". I have never been excited about this movie and I'm still not..

Man, now I know 100% that this is going to be a good film!!! Their springing for the extra's LOL.

redvector 4/27/2011 5:25:39 AM

I thought that the film had too much to CGI start with, now that the release is about a month away they want more CGI effects? Could they be trying to cover a crappy script and or acting performances with flashy effects?

jedibanner 4/27/2011 5:30:11 AM

Hehehe...this looks more and more like a Star Wars feeling all over again (more CGI, less story and acting).

Bryzarro 4/27/2011 6:03:23 AM

I always laughed as i got older that somehow a GL ring thought it was a good idea to give a ring to a guy named Sinesto.....almost like giving powers to a guy named Larry Kidkill.

I just want this movie out now so I can finally see what they have put together.  I'm very optimistic but I've gone into all movies since March with no expectations and have not been dissapointed so far.

goldeneyez 4/27/2011 6:36:54 AM

What if Sinestro meant "bringer of peace and love" on his home planet?  That's such an arrogant human attitude to take :)

Hobbs 4/27/2011 6:56:31 AM

I'll probably end up seeing this movie but from the previews I'm still sticking with my title Green Wilder.

Wiseguy 4/27/2011 7:24:57 AM

All 9 million should go into deleting Hal's cgi suit and going traditional with just a green glow when in flight or fight

krathwardroid 4/27/2011 10:38:27 AM

Wiseguy: But then they'd have to design a real suit and reshoot all of Reynolds's scenes as Green Lantern, delaying the movie extensively.
