The 'Wonder Woman' DVD landed on our doorstep this weekend. We watched the movie and it's a great flick, but that's not what we're here to write about today.

Included as an extra on the DVD is the exclusive first look at DC Universe's upcoming 'Green Lantern' animated movie!

We were surprised to see this, since we hadn't even heard about the film before. Color us even more surprised when it's revealed that the film is due out later this year.

The first six minutes of the ten minute feature focuses on bringing the uninitiated up to speed with who and what the Green Lantern is, in terms of the history of the comics as well as the character.

But then producer Bruce Timm, director Lauren Montgomery and voice director Andrea Romano begin to take us behind the scenes of the movie, introducing the cast along with artwork from the production.

So who's voicing Hal Jordan in the movie?

None other than Christopher Meloni of 'Law & Order: SVU' fame.

The story follows Hal's acquisition of the ring and his journey into the Corps where he meets his mentor (and soon-to-be nemesis) Sinestro, played by Victor Garber of 'Alias'.

The film looks to be heavy science fiction featuring space faring adventure rather than Earthbound action. In fact it looks as if dozens of GL Corps members will appear, with Kilowog, Boodikka and Ch'p figuring prominently.

Michael Madsen ('Kill Bill') voices Kilowog while Tricia Helfer ('Battlestar Galactic') plays Boodikka.

No actual animation from the film is revealed, but the preview does show lots of design drawings, story boards and animatics, some of which we present below.

The "first look" closes with the declaration that 'Green Lantern' will be on DVD and Blu-Ray Summer 2009!

Looks pretty cool. I wish the costume was a little more traditional, but hey it still looks pretty close. I like the voice talent they have lined up. Chris Meloni will make a great Jordan and Garber is not a conventional choice for Sinestro, but still I think he will do great. You know Garber doesn't get a lot of notice, but he's a good actor. Madsen as Kilowog is cool, I mean I wish they would have gone back to Dennis Haysbert, but hey Madsen will do fine. I like the plot it sounds pretty cool and the fact that we only have to wait a few months for it is great because I will need something to do this summer in between changing and feeding my daughter. It's like DC knew I couldn't make it to the movies this summer so they helped all the guys who will have newborns out by serving up some Green Lantern. I have to say the more GL I read especially Geoff Johns work, the more he is becoming my second favorite hero almost ride alongside Batman. I hope they get the Flash animated movie out soon.

The voice cast definitely sounds like it has potential, IMO.  The "armored" uniform seems a bit unusual (at least for GL).

Sounds cool.  I like Meloni, but it might've been cool to have Borenaz back since he did the voice in New Frontiers.  I guess their just going to do totally new casts for all these DC Animated features.  The summer release seems to be in-line with what they did last year releasing Superman/Doomsday in the winter and New Frontier in the summer.  Odd though that there's actual animation in the preview.  The Wonder Woman preview last year had some finished animation and the release date was a lot longer away.

It's about time they did a Green Lantern animated film I was wondering when they were gonna do one.Meloni is gonna do a fantastic job,Boreanz did a good job too,but personally I liked Dermot Mulroney when he voiced him in The Batman.Agreed Garber doesn't get alot of notice looking forward to see him voicing Sinestro. The animation looks good the suit looks  ok though, definitely can't wait to see this when  it's finished.

I like the armored look That Green Lantern has in this film. Kind of reminds me of the batsuit from TDK for some reason. Great voice cast if you ask me. Can't wait to see it.

Bruce Timm and Green Lantern.  I'm in.

GL Animated!!! I'm in.  I still only get my fix of the Corps in animated fomr from the episode of Duck Dodgers (Which was awsome).  I think DC is starting to try and get their act together.  Supes/Doomsday, New Frontier were both really good IMO.  WIll pick up wonder woman just because I will.  Hope this leads to a great JLA flick on DVD too.

Wonder Woman was one of the best animated movies I've seen. If that is any indication this will be awesome. As soon as Wonder Woman was over, I sthought GODDAMN! They need to do a Green Lantern or Flash animated movie like this!

Can't wait!

I wonder if this is a good move with a GL live action on the way.

That aside I'm down for anything GL, especially if it's Hal Jordan. My wish is that Marvel's film need to reach the same quality as DC's animated fare. Looking forward to this also.
