GREEN LANTERN, ULTIMATUM and other news bits for October 14th

Here's today's round up of new from around the internet:

Guggenheim on GREEN LANTERN

Newsarama.com chats up Marc Guggenheim, famed comics writer and creator of the TV show 'Eli Stone', who also happens to be one of the screenwriters on the 'Green Lantern' movie. The writer confirms that the movie seems to be on the fast track.

"It's pretty far along," Guggenheim said. "We're reasonably deep into it [Green Lantern]. I'm never really comfortable publicly commenting on the movie because unlike the TV show, I'm just one of three writers and I've sworn a blood oath to secrecy. But we're in the thick of it. We're moving along at a pretty hefty clip."

He also had little to say about the recent rumors placing actor Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

"I read that online, actually," Guggenheim said. "That was how I got that news. As one of the writers, I'm not really involved in the day-to-day pre-production on it all. But I think it would be pretty amazing. I'll go on record saying that."

I like that WB/DC hasn't interfered with the GL script and tried to make it "darker" the way that one report said. Hopefully they took a step back and realized everything can't be like TDK.
I haven't been this excited for a DC film since Keaton's Batman. GL may be second only to Batman in the DC Universe so I hope they don't blow it. And I don't think they will judging by Geggenheim's words.

Millar said DC didn't want him on Superman because he works for Marvel yet they don't seem to have a problem working with Guggenheim.

I don't get as excited for Ultimate events only because the 616 Universe is still the one true Marvel Universe. But I am looking forward to Ultimatum.
I want to see how badly Pym fucked up again.

*Secret Invasion Spoiler Alert*

Today's round up from what's new around the internet? What about the leaked ending of the Secret Invasion (avengers get their asses handed to them)?

Does anyone else think the video trailers Marvel puts out for their comic books are ridiculous? They're not even a step up from the fan-boy made youtube videos with clips of the animated vids & poorly scanned pages set to rhianna.

Very excited about Ultimatum. My biggest hope is that it will bring the Ultimate continuity together as well as it was at the beginning. Each book has drifted from one another quite a bit. Such as, there's yet to be a mention of the gigantic fight with the Liberators at the end of Ultimates 2 in Spider-Man. Spider Man, not the Ultimates, in my opinion is the flagship title and needs to lead the way in continuity. But it is shaping up to be one fantastic event/crossover and I look forward to it for many reasons. Cheif among them, Doom becomes Doom! He's sat on the sidelines too much in the Ultimate continuity. He did bring in the Fearful Four and started the whole 'Marvel Zombies' thing, but he needs a bigger stage and I'm glad he's getting it.

I read comics a lot when I was younger, but haven't read in quite some time. The whole Ultimates thing is interesting to me. What's the best way to begin reading the Ultimates story lines from the beginning? Is there a collection in graphic novel format?

evil, I'd get the first 2 Ultimates (Ultimate Universe's Avengers) on trades, the 3rd just came out so you can get that on single issues. I'd also get Ultimate Origins.
As far as X-Men, FF and Spidey I think they're too far along if you want to get all caught up. X is at about 100 in, FF 60 and Spidey 120. That's a lot of reading but if you're up to the task you can get all of them in trades.
Marvel has put out several Ultimate Sagas issues for free to sort of let people catch up and get up to date. Maybe your comic shop still has some around. They give you a brief recap so you can jump in right now while you slowly catch up on the old trades if you want all the details.

Or you can always go to the Marvel website or wiki to get a recap. But none will give you all the details.

Or do what I've done in the past, just start reading now and as you go along you'll be able to slowly fill in the blanks.

evil,

if you can get to a comic shop, the best and cheapest way to get caught up is a comic called 'March on Ultimatum saga'.  it's a totally free comic with magneto on the cover, and inside is a total history of the Ultimate universe.  it's surprisingly detailed and a great way to get caught up or as a refresher.  and it's free, what's not to like about that?

despite what you've just read, i don't work for marvel....
