I loved the Bourne trilogy but his story essentially ended. His circle was complete. They have got to come up with a really good story to put him back into action. I hope that's the case with whatever script they come up with.

It looks like the fourth Bourne adventure is traveling back to development hell for Universal Pictures. The Playlist is reporting that director Paul Greengrass has exited the project after some confusion on who's in charge of scripting out the story.
Two scripts have been written for the project, which is not exactly a vote of confidence. One penned by George Nolfi (who co-wrote 'Bourne 3' and is currently busy working with Matt Damon on "The Adjustment Bureau"), and a few months ago, Universal hired another scribe, Josh Zetumer, to write what they are diplomatically calling a "parallel" script. Zetumer has been a Black List favorite for several years, and has "The Infiltrator" in development with Leonard DiCaprio's company, Appian Way, and wrote Peter Berg's "Dune" — he is hot to say the least.
A small part of the problem? Greengrass, who has been busy toiling away on "Green Zone," was not consulted by Universal in the hiring of a new writer. This obviously did not make him happy, but that's only part of the issue that's been ongoing for some time (meanwhile, no one seems to love Nolfi's version).
As the website points out, this doesn't mean that Greengrass won't come back in at a later date once the issue is resolved. Lead star Matt Damon and the director have formed a bond, working together on Bourne Ultimatum, Bourne Supremacy and the upcoming Green Zone drama. If Damon insists that Paul must be on the set or the director and studio make up, all will be back on.

Agreed monkey foot however the Jackal story in the novels was never really touched on in the movie trilogy it would be interesting if they brought that back into the bourne story somehow.
I've been hoping that now that their version of Bourne is done they can go back to the books for ideas. The Jackal story would be great. Although it wouldn't be the same without Bourne's family being in danger as well as himself. They never should have killed off Marie.
But they could introduce the Marie character from the books as a new character in the series. The Marie in the movies was some french hippy. The Marie in the books worked in commerce in Canada. It would work and the original series had a solid story. Although I guess the other issue is that they killed off Alex Konklin and he has a major part in the second and third books.
Introducing another character that becomes his wife is definitely possible. And Alex's death is something they'd have to write around as well. But like Marie, some other character could fill his role.
This isn't a good sign. I agree with hanso, though. If Greengrass is out, bring back Liman. His was really the best anyway...
What's the rush? It's only been 2 years.
A simple storyline would be Bourne spots terrorists, Terrorists do not know Bourne, Bourne follows terrorists,Terrorists find out who Bourne is Bourne kills terrorists and saves freederm and patriotiserm. CIA kisses Bournes ass.
Bourne 5-Terrorist brother seeks revernge on Bourne.
Bourne 6:Bourne moves to Quohog next to Quagmire and rescues Quagmires sex slave girls. Giggity Giggity Goo
Bring Doug Liman back if Greengrass walks.
