During the latest casting call news, I mentioned that the only major character left to fill for STAR TREK was the role of Christopher Pike, the original captain of the Enterprise. That's no longer an issue for JJ Abrams, says the Hollywood Reporter. The trade reports that Bruce Greenwood will be putting on the uniform and commanding the original crew of the famous starship.

Actress Rachel Nichols has also confirmed to the Toronto Sun that she has been cast in the next adventure. JJ Abrams started production yesterday.

New Crew:

Capt. Pike: Bruce Greenwood

James T. Kirk: Chris Pine

Young Spock: Zachary Quinto

Dr. "Bones" McCoy: Karl Urban

Scotty: Simon Pegg

Chekov: Anton Yelchin

Uhura: Zoe Saldana

Sulu: John Cho

Old Spock: Leonard Nimoy

Nero: Eric Bana

TBA Character: Rachel Nichols

STAR TREK hits theaters Christmas Day 2008.

Actually I think he'll be a great choice for Pike, but I'm heartbroken my first choice for Pike wasn't cast:

Or really that any of my picks made the cut. I think I had the better casting...

I actually rather like the Ray Liotta idea...

But the others were great too... Especially Girard Butler, haha.

They have forgotten Dr Phillip Boyce.

Liotta would have been a good look a like for Jeffrey Hunter.

So is this movie gonna start in the middle, then jump back to the begining, then back to the midle to the end? I can't wait for this,,,seems like an awesome cast.

I like it. Greenwood is a great actor and he's got the right presence for the role. This is one of the best casting choices Abrams has made with this project.

I hope that he is in sequels... I would love to see this guy rolling around blinking once for yes and twice for no.... I mean come on, in the future according to Star Trek mythology, they have cyborgs, machines that can transport matter, replicate food, travel billions of miles through space, make love to green chicks, but this guy is stuck in a big black wheelchair and all they can give the dude to communicate is a piece of an old broken light bright.... that's harsh dude. I mean even Stephen Hawking talks in a super cool ROBOvoice.... Hey, maybe two lights, a green one for red and a red one for no... that would be waaaay cooler and he'd be a hit at federation Xmas parties.

Again with this movie, wouldn't it be nice if the actor actually LOOKED like the character. This guy looks nothing like Pike, folks.

I'm not going to complain about the cast for this movie. I got into the Original ST after watching the movies and really liked ST Next Gen. But the one thing that won't always happen is getting look a likes for all their movies. I think there has rarley been a movie in recent times made that anyone has liked the casting. I really can't wait for this and hope it breathes new life into this franchise for many years to come.

Yeah, Liotta would have been so perfect. But maybe he wasn't available or didn't want to do it. Greenwood, however is a fine actor. I for one am pleased with everything so far on this movie and would like to buy my ticket for the midnight show opening night.
Madmanic, I agree with you about Pike's later condition. In that time period they would probably have something better for the man to lead a better life then the blinking black chair. But the reason for his condition was more for dramatic effect then anything else, so that they had a good story for Spock's hijacking of the Enterprise.
Even the transporter, which was only created as a cheap way of getting characters to planets, has real life implications that the shows decide not to explore. If the transporter keeps a perfectly accurate recording of you from the first time you get beamed, then characters should never age or get sick. Getting 40 something and alittle gray? Step into the transporter and it restores you to 20 years old like the first time you went in it. A red shirt gets killed planetside? Beam him back up and he should be reconstituted like he was when he left.
But none of these and other things are ever done because they would mess up the drama of great TV.

Excellent casting choice. Greenwood is a great actor. Actually, a friend and I came up with his name when Da Vinci Code came out. We thought he would have made a much better Robert Langdon than Tom Hanks. Not that Hanks didn't do a fine job, but based on our mental image after reading the book (and Angels & Demons), we thought Greenwood fit better.

Liotta would have been good for Pike, too. But I always thought it would have been good to have Tom Cruise do a cameo as Pike. I'm sure Abrams could have gotten him to do it.

P.S. Just saw the part about Rachel Nichols. She's hot! Wonder if she'll play Yeoman Rand. Or maybe Nurse Chapel...
