Greeting Manics

By Robert T. Trate     April 08, 2012

Hello Maniacs, it’s your new News Editor Robert T. Trate or, as my friends call me, Bob. I hope you have enjoyed my first week as your leading Maniac. I got the font issue squared away and I have already started to update parts of the site. The first and most important psrt was Comics. I really missed Comicscape and our weekly Wednesday update. Every week I used to equip myself with at least one or two extra titles all because of Mania’s Comicscape. I have complete faith in Joel [Rickenbach] to bring Comicscape back to its former glory.

In case you are wondering where I came from, I’ve been here the whole time. I’ve been reading Mania since it was Cinescape Magazine. I started writing my first column in 2007, The DVD Shopping Bag, and since then I’ve written two new ones: The Toy Maniac and The Geek Life. It is mind boggling to me that that I’ve written the DVD Shopping Bag for nearly 5 years. That is a hell of lot of titles. I also can’t believe that The Toy Maniac is approaching its 200th week. Now, I’m honored to be watching over Mania and being a part of the great Mania/ Cinescape tradition. I won’t be one to sit back and let the news just come in. I believe in going out to Conventions, sitting in on press junkets, and bringing the best news to you Maniacs first hand. Thank Jor-El I have Rob Vaux as my right hand man to do this.
What we need from you Maniacs is what you already give us. Your fanaticism, your undying loyalty, and above all your reach. If you love a story, review, feature, or column then pass it on. Help spread the word about Mania and how passionate we are. You know how. This way we can grow and pass that on to you with better stories, set visits, interviews, and above all exclusives.
The insanity of our holiday season (what I call the summer blockbusters) is almost upon us. Each and every week will be packed with midnight screenings, reviews, interviews, and trailers for the fall and winter movies (The Hobbit!!!). It is simply the best time to tune into Mania and be a Maniac.

Bob, thanks for taking the reins.  We miss Jarrod, but I'm sure you will shepherd the site well and bring your own sense of style to the proceedings.

The return of Comicscape is wonderful news.  I had missed the comics chat with my fellow maniacs since that column went dark.  While I can share my love of movies, TV and books with many people in my life, I'm somewhat short of people to discuss comics with.

I know that the Box Office Report was Jarrod's column but I'm hoping that you will find somebody to take it over.  I miss it already.

While I'm putting my wishes out there, it would be nice to have the TV reviews back.  Mania used to review episodes of many of the genre TV shows, now it onlky seems to review Walking Dead, which I don't watch.  I miss the conversations we used to have about Lost and Smallville and Stargate and lots of other shows.  Those shows are no more, but there's lots of other genre TV out there to review.  I'd love to see reviews of Once Upon A Time and Fringe and Grimm and some of the other current shows.  Oh what discussions we could have!

Great to hear more comicscape is coming. Can't wait!

Congrats on the new position, Robert, Rob, Bob, TheMovieLord, R-Tat or whatever you want us to call you...!  :)

Glad Comicscape is coming back.  I didn't always get a chance to read it every week, but enjoyed it when I did.  I echo what Kara said about the reviews.  Would be nice to have a place to get a good conversation going.  I also miss those Friday recaps of the previous week's news.  That always helped make sure nothing slipped through the cracks in case I missed an article if I was on travel or something.  (Oh by the way, the search feature leaves a lot to be desired because the returned results is always a cryptic mess to sort through).

But if I had one wish it would be to bring the Movie Maven back!  I miss Tara and Rich.

I've always appreciated the Mania staff in that they actually take to the comment boards and interact with their fanbase. (I don't know why every site doesn't do that.)  Anyway, I look forward to your stint as editor and hopefully you can give us a few fresh new things we've never seen before.

I miss the weekend box office report. It used to arrive on Sunday evening. Is that coming to and end now??

The effort and the aspect of reaching out to us is a great way to start Rob, love the Comicscape and the way I interpret the fact that there may be more info on comic conventions, press junkets and whatnot, the fasct that you guys will go out there and continue the great work so far.

Any chance of the Movie Maven coming back?

I knooow yooou :) So can I call you Bob?

So far so good Rob. I've always read your pieces even when I don't comment. Great thing getting comicscape back to have at least that one thread to discuss our books. I won't call for individual comic book reviews just because of the sheer amount of books out there but I won't complain either. I think comicscape should suffice

I agree with the aforementioned box office report, that's what gets the week started around here :) Besides that just getting the news in a timely manner and the normal content is  good enough for me

better the devil you know....hehe.......thanks for being "the guy" Bob, it's always been the passion for the arts that have kept me coming back to this site and I'm sure that'll always be the case.

Read ya later!

Congrats on the promotion, Robert!  (Or, should we all refer to you as Bob now?)  I love the return of Comicscape, so you're doing really well in my book so far!

Trate, there are only 2 things I want. 1. More timely movie/tv news.  2.  update the profiles please!  you cant leave messeges on people's profiles if they already got 10 comments, sending meseges to their inbox is also a pain.  also, remove the new maniacs from the main page. its always spammers.  i guess thats more than 2 so ill keep going.  how bout script reviews get incorporated from time to time? django unchained as been floating out there for awhile.

Congratulations Bob!  I've noticed small improvements to the site each and every day of the past week.   I believe I actually saw news reported on the weekend.  Keep up the good work and I'll keep coming back.  Looking forward to the future.
