According to MovieHole, a sequel to the Gremlins franchise may be in the works over at Warner Premiere, Warner Bros. direct to DVD studio.

Moviehole writes:

“The talk has been going on for quite some time”, the WB source says of a third “Gremlins” film, which many speculate will utilise CGI rather than puppetry. "I think that’s all it is at the moment. Talk. I know [name removed] has a pretty full slate over at Premiere – they’re looking at doing direct to video sequels to Scooby Doo and The Goonies, and as you mentioned, Premiere are soon to start production on The Lost Boys 2 and New Jack City 2 – so won’t be in any rush.

“..it isn’t possible to do anything on the budget of those [DTV sequels], and to be half decent, this thing would have to have a bit of money behind it, so I don’t think one can safely say it’ll definitely end up one of the titles on the Warner Premiere slate, but I believe its a consideration”.

KJ's Take:  New ideas people, new ideas!  Though I should say, I loved the Gremlin movies growing up.

FINALLY! But it better be good! Not super campy as the second film turned into.

Campy is fine, that is what Gremlins is about but please no hooker gremlins wanting to kiss Robert Picardo.

They should make it more serious but still somewhat campy as the 1st film was.

Oh and Gizmo better be back along with Jennifer Connelly.

Not Jennifer Connelly, Phoebe Cates.

I enjoyed the second one. I loved how the Video and Film versions had a different scene in the middle. Hulk Hogan tells them to fix the film... hilarious.

It really just seems to me they're missing a golden opportunity on this one. Dante even said with all the new technology out there they could make a great follow up. Direct to video is really just dumping it isn't it?

Ummm... New Jack City 2?

Where the hell did that one come from?

Goonies 2??Lost Boys 2?!?! Direct to DVD?? What the hay?!?!?! They better do these right or don't do em at all. Those were both classic films from my childhood and I don't want those memories tainted with mediocre sequels.

I don't think CGI needs to replace the puppetry in Gremlins 3. Maybe i am just being old fashioned or nastalgic, but I tend to like the feel and movement of the models better than the CGI creatures.

Goonies 2??? Do they know how old those guys are?

The Goonies 2 idea is the only one that appeals to me. There's been talk about that for years, with the kids of the original group going off on an adventure.
The Direct to DVD outlet seems to be a new growing trend. Must be money there.

Note to WB re: all franchises mentioned in this story - LET IT GO! THEY ARE DEAD! DO NOT MAKE THESE MOVIES!!

Thank you.

They should have done this 15 years ago, it's too late now.

I agree with the "get new ideas", instead they bring back dead franchises. I understand doing that for some of them, but it's really going crazy.

And CGI sucks! What made the first one great and the second one fine is the fact that they were amazing puppets.
