GREMLINS in 3D?

Those Gremlins 3D reboot rumors wrecking more havoc.

You must follow the three rules or the rumors of more Gremlins will return. Despite the long-awaited return of those pesky creatures being planned for over a decade,  Jim over at Marketsaw confirmed last summer's reports of development moving forward over at Warner Bros. Pictures. The website doesn't make it clear whether it will be a remake or a third installment but says another Gremlins movie is coming to the silver screens and it will be in stereoscopic 3D. It's reportedly in the early stages with still lots of hurdles to pass, but it is being developed.

For his part, original director Joe Dante suggested to Empire last summer that it would probably be more of a remake than a direct sequel to the first two films. And original screenwriter and story creator Chris Columbus said he probably wouldn't be involved if it happened.

The first film found its way into theaters on July 8, 1984 (the same release date as Ghostbusters). It debuted in 2nd place with an opening weekend of $12 million and would go on to gross $148.1 million in theaters.

Thanks to gauleyboy420 for the submission.

I kind of hope they go for the remake instead of a sequel.  Too many sequels after so many years have just gone horribly wrong for me.

Gremlins 3D. Could be fun, only as long as we don't get some depressing soliloquy performed by a Phoebe Cates type, about her father, dressed up as Santa, getting caught in the chimney and dying and then starting to stink as his body his rots. (Really what was that all about?)

Speaking of Phoebe Cates "types"... Anyone ever notice all the ads for "Lace - American Apparel" on this website? Do they just want us to look or do they want us to buy?

Gremlins? Really? now in 3-D? Really?Toy-Story, Avantar, Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Piranhas, horror, comedy, action, what next cooking shows, infomercials, the evening news? Studios are running the gimmick into the ground, deep into the ground for a buck. Saw this 30 years ago with the 3-D filming and the crazy glasses, now tv wants to go 3-D....really?!?! It was probably cool at  one point now its just a gimmick.

Sounds like fun!
It planned right, it could repeat history and open against Ghostbusters (III) again.

A third Gremlins movie should've been out years ago. So sure, it would be yet another reboot. I actually prefer Gremlins 2 The New Batch over the first movie.

Yeah Muenster, I'm not really sure what demographic they are trying to hit with those adds?  If they want hits on the website to check out the pictures ok, but what's the point since not many people here are going to buy anything unless it's for their girlfriends or wives.  They are quite distracting in a good way.

I just knew this had to be coming. With all the 80's remake/reboots of the past few years I was expecting Gremlins to be coming along. It's a no-brainer.

I'd prefer they just do a sequel. I mean a sequel in the sense that the story of that particular teenage boy and girlfriend in their small town during Xmas getting a Mogwai from an inventor dad need not be repeated. You can easily re-introduce the Gremlins again in an entirely new storyline. 3D is a natural for this concept. Just be original about it presentation is all.

Muenster, yeah you can't help noticing the American Apparel ads. They do seem out of place on this website. I haven't noticed them on other genre websites. But I'm sure they get alot of click-thrus to their website (I've done it) which I'm sure puts some bucks in Mania's pocket.

Meh. Gremlins was good in its day, but didn't care too much for the sequel. Don't know how good it would be these days. Just not really that interested...

@ddiaz and monkeyfoot.

Yeah... I finally decided to take a look. Nice looking girls in there, but I could not find a thing that would look good on me.

I really wanna buy some Hosiery....

On the 3-D thing... Of course it's a gimmick, doesn't mean it's not fun...

Citizen Kane? NO

Fun? YES
