Gremlins was one of my abolute fav movies when i was being introduced to movies way way way back then ...

 i do belive Animatronics is more expensive than to go with CGI, although some small parts may involve some sort of Animatronics like in Jurasic Park, wich looks great for an older movie. just think how much CGI has changed from then to now. another reason i can't wait for Man of Steel, and Pacific Rim, and others that have pleanty use of CGI..then again some have good potential and just end up fucking it all up.. as far as reboots i could care less, i don't let that bother me, i do think others have a shot at making and telling their story and yet find ways to keep some parts in it that reminds us of the classics, ..and yes it will be in 3-D again why not?

Don't ge me wrong, I love CGI when used in the proper spot, but go back and look at Gremlins 2?? It looks real cause it is real. Now imagine those huge group shot doen with CG?? Imagine how CG it will look... cause you know it will.

Nothing looks more real than real. I prefer CGI for stuff like robots cause the rendering and movement are able to be done so well in the computer, organic stuff not so much, even in this day and age with CGI. I mean if you have a monster as big as a building, then yeah CGI all the way cause its just easier. But when you have something thats a 1/3 the height of a human, theres no reason why you wouldn't want to go with a real object people can actually interact with. Every time there's a creature or something that was originally a ridgid prop that some one holds or intercts which is eventually replaced with CGI, you CAN ALWAYS TELL.

Anyways my real vote is for a mix. As much practical as possible, with CGI being used when neccessary, not CGI being used to death in every shot possible.

Oh and the remake/reboot idea of this in the first place... I say just make it a sequel. No need to REBOOT!

 Let's not.  Try something original.  The first two were classic.  Just let it rest!

 The CGI dragons on "Game of Thrones" look as real as they can get. I can't imagine animatronic baby dragons could look more real than the CGI ones on that show. If those effects guys could do the Gremlins I think it could work. As for Gizmo,I am not sure. Animatronics might be a better bet because hair and fur usually looks off with CGI. Then again, "Ted" was well done.

The one thing CGI creatures have that animatronics lack is movement. Animatronics are very limited in what they can do.

MIO82, concerning CGI my thoughts exactly!!  They should always go with the real on-set practical FX as much as possible before using CGI or maybe a mix of the two if it works.  BTW, I'm fairly certain that animatronics as well as other on-set FX is much less expensive than CGI!  Bear in mind that it's not just the expensive CG technology itself but the talent behind that that charges a lot for their services which are in big demand since it took off back in the mid-90's.  Alien was made on a budget of only $11 million and even though that was back in 1979 I doubt even adjusted for inflation that it would be considered big budget.  In other words, they didn't rely on CG and didn't need to spend a lot.

I freaking loved the original and saw it like 4X in the theater back in the day, lol.

I'm glad  this is happening! I always thought hey had one more story to tell but I hope they make it a bit more serious than #2 was.

 Elbaz13  You asked when are they going to do a reboot of Reboot.  Assume you are talking about the CGI animated action-adventure cartoon that ran on ABC-TV in the mid / late 1990's.  That show had it's moments...but few seem to remember it.  I'd actually prefer a reboot of Reboot to a reboot of Gremlins.
