Hasbro has finally done the one thing that fans have been waiting years for, a re-release of classic characters in their original looks, in an all-new toy series. It was a simple request and Hasbro answered with Transformers Classics. Chocked full of Autobots and Decepticons from yesteryear this series is a must for any old school TF diehard fan. It’s literally is a who’s who in TF history including Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream, The Dinobots, Rodimus and our favorite robotic dinosaur Grimlock.
The series so far has been divided into three categories: deluxe, mini-cons and basic. Grimlock and the majority of the characters are deluxe figures. Deluxe in comparison to the non-deluxe means you’ll shell out more cash for the figure (and it’s worth it) and the characters have more points of articulation with more transforming happening. Grimlock has always been a favorite for fans, maybe it was the speech impediment, but this figure of the classic Autobot is done great.
Grimlock comes with a blaster gun that can be attached to him either in his dino form or regular form, and his tail can be turned into a whip. I can’t really say how many articulation points there are, since it transforms and it gets a little confusing, but there’s a good amount and it’s what you would expect when it comes to a TF figure. Hasbro now has been making TF figures for over 20 years and they’ve perfected the feel, look and paint on every figure. It’s hard to find any fault or something negative on any figure in this series and it may be one of their best lines in years.
The best quality of the Grimlock figure is that he comes in his classic colors, but Hasbro somehow gave him an updated feel and that’s sure to satisfy your inner child. This series has the potential to grow into something similar like JAKKS WWE Classic Superstars line since what was old is now new again. It is a complete wonder to why this series was not done years ago, but despite that it’s a great series and a great figure to own.
