Group Calls for Label on CODE

The Roman Catholic group Opus Dei has asked Sony Pictures to put a disclaimer on the THE DA VINCI CODE stressing it is clearly a work of fiction. They feel the disclaimer would show respect towards the church.

In a written statemen the group said, "An eventual decision of Sony in this direction would be a sign of respect towards the figure of Jesus Christ, the history of the Church, and the religious beliefs of viewers." They object to the portrayal of the Church as as a secretive group that has worked for centuries to obscure truths about Jesus Christ.

A Sony Pictures spokesman stated they have always considered the movie "a work of fiction ... a thriller, not a religious tract."

Thanks to Luc for the heads up.

Isn't it enough that the book ITSELF is labelled as fiction? Honestly. Some people need to get a grip. Besides, anyone who believes what they read in a novel as "fact" needs a good slap in the face from reality. As realistic as time-travel seemed in Crichton's "Timeline", sorry.... it doesn't work here.

These guys are overreacting just a tad.

Yeah, I agree. I mean criticize government - no problem, criticize science - no problem, criticize religion and everyone goes apes**t. No one wanted a disclaimer for "Syriana" or "The Day After Tommorrow" as a work of fiction. Everyone knew that!

While I don't really feel that it's necessary for there to be a label applied to the film, I don't consider this as "Going Ape**t". lol. All they did was ask.

Yeah.. god forbid people read a a novel that talks about things from two thousand years ago and really doesn't have proof of being true.

wait a sec... hrm...

Given what is "truly" known or "truly" unknown, perhaps the Catholic Church should put out a disclaimer that the new testoment is a work of fiction in order to show respoct to the Jewish faith...

***Disclaimer -- This post is a work of fiction***

* Disclaimer meant to show respect to any who wish to flame me for my post.

stupid stupid stupid, First the Crazy Muslims with their cartoons, and now disclaimer on movies that have a relious tone. Stupid

Why doesn't religion put a disclaimer on people like Robert Tilton amd Benny Hinn. For entertainment purposes only would be more appropiate.

It's funny to see that the DVC is creating so much discussions and can even put someone's faith into limbo.

I saw an article this weekend that there was in North America a 13% rise of people who now question their faith and beliefs in the catholic churches because of the DVC.

Can you believe this???

And, all this because Mr. Brown put at the beginning of his book that ''everything mentionned in this book is true''.

If he wouldn't have put this in the book, more people would've seen it as a fictional book instead of something that apparently is true.

And now, why are people actually considering things for real, beats the hell out of me. But, over all, it's a good book but come on.....

And now, a disclaimer?
what is this crap...

Spin, why you are at it, why not ask the muslims to put a disclaimer on their preciouse koran in good faith to Christians and Jewish faiths. Anyway, the new testament is just Non-fiction as the old testament, Just because you don't want to accept Jesus doesn't make it fiction.
