Franklyn (check it out)

Check out the trailer for Franklyn on youtube. It is slated for A February 20th, release date in the UK which means we probably won't see it here (or have to wait for it on DVD).

I could do without the voice over but it still looks interesting.

Kristin Kreuk, Dan Brown, and Harry Potter

1/5/2009 4:29:47 PM permalink

Now there's an unlikely three-way.

But, seriously, since Maelstrom has used his incredible, evil influence (by pushing a button and typing a bit) and created this little group, I might as well say something.

I AM a member of this evil organization.

(Or maybe Maelstrom is a member of The Guard. Who knows for certain?)

So far, I'm looking forward to three movies:

1. Angels and Demons. I love the trailer, I loved the book, and I keep replaying it every so often just to keep myself aware of the fact that the movie will be out in just a few short months.

2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Given what I've seen (and read) I'm actually hopeful this one will outshine the half shot script of "Phoenix." I'm truly interested in seeing how Slughorn comes across on screen.

3. Kristin Kreuk is gonna be on screen.

And hopefully NAKED. :)

But I doubt that'll happen in her new Street Fighter movie as Chun Li.

I must ask this: given the fact that Kristin is likely the WHITEST girl I've ever seen, how was it she was cast in that role? Who'd she bang (and could he please tell me his secret?)

I remember the original Street Fighter movie. It's borderline being on our TOP 10 GOOD CRAP FILM FESTIVAL (that we haven't completed counting down Maelstrom).

Street Fighter...god bless them, they tried. The producers tried. You've got to give them that.

Oh yeah, and it had Kylie Minogue. More kudos to them.

And poor Raul Julia, to end his film career on such a low note.

I haven't seen the original Street Fighter movie in years, and what I do remember hints at an amount of campiness like you'd find in an Old Navy television commercial.

But, for some reason, I'm cautiously hopeful for Kristin's Chun Li movie.

Maybe it's alzheimers, maybe it's another form of dementia.

Maybe its the fact I've seen Kristin in her underwear...on the internet. (It stll counts! I've got the wallpaper to prove it!)

Kristin, I know you want to break free of drama girl Lana Lang and such, but I don't think this would be the way to do it.

What else is coming out this year? Besides the infidel Abram's Star Trek, I mean.

*** Legal Issues

Fox threatens WB's 'Watchmen' release

Background: 20th Century Fox filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros studios in February 2007, claiming that owing to a breach of contract, they still ownthe film rights to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel.

According to the suit, when producer Lawrence Gordon purchased the rights from Fox, they were purchased in "turnaround".

How "Turnaround" Works in Hollywood:

Whenever a movie (acquired in turnaround -Ed) is given a new director, or star, or script, or anything fundamental is changed, said producer must give the original studio another shot at making the movie because of the changes made.

Fox alleges that when Gordon sold the rights to Watchmen to Warner Brothers studios, he had not offered Fox their first right to make the Snyder/Hayter/Tse version of Watchmen.

and therefore he did not fulfill his contractual obligation and is in breech of contract.

The Current Legal Situation: (as of December 24th, 2008)

Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen Feess has ruled in favour of 20th Century Fox in the Watchmen copyright case.

In a five-page judgement, Feess concluded,

"Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the Watchmen motion picture."

adding,

"The parties may wish to turn their efforts from preparing for trial to negotiating a resolution of this dispute or positioning the case for review."

Fox and Warner have been in this situation before.

Previously 20th Century Fox sought an injunction against the release of The Dukes of Hazzard; Warner subsequently paid Fox $17.5 million to settle the case.

This time around Warner is (currently -Ed) stating it will not settle believing Fox's case to be weak, and Fox is indicating that they will seek an injunction to delay the release of Watchmen.

The case is set to move into the next phase on January 20th, 2009.

Stay Tuned.

\/\/elcome to SneakPeek!

1/4/2009 3:44:10 AM permalink

Greetings and \/\/elcome to SneakPeek,

The Mania group dedicated to creating a one-stop database for upcoming science fiction, fantasy and horror slash "genre" movies.

The idea is simple:

1. Any Maniac may create a blog entry slash fact sheet for an upcoming movie here in SneakPeek.

and/or

2. may add to anyone else's movie page here in SneakPeek with facts or rumours or comments, in that movie page's comments area.

3. (once msg-editing is turned on here by the Mania Tech Team- Ed) if you're the chief custodian of a movie's fact page here in SneakPeek, you can then edit your movie fact page, to incorporate information provided by other Maniacs in the comments area, and otherwise may add any new additional information.

until such point as

4. Your SneakPeek page becomes an impressive amalgamation of all known facts & rumours about an upcoming movie.

SneakPeek MiniFaq:

Question: Hey Maelstrom,  How do I create a SneakPeek movie fact page?

Answer: When you next enter this SneakPeek group you will see "add a blog post" at the bottom of the page.  Punch that, enter the full name of the upcoming movie as your title, and away you go.

If you aren't sure what your SneakPeek movie page should look like, DON'T PANIC! it doesn't need to be perfect from word go, and the design is entirely up to you.

*sooner or later Mania will turn on blog-editing and you'll be able to modify your SneakPeek page to aesthetically spiff it up or otherwise update it with new information.

regards,

michael xavier maelstrom.
