Not too familiar with this franchise; I think it's a huge risk for Marvel.  However, if this gets the proper treatment and is done well then this will propel Marvel into the stratosphere.  This has the makings of an epic franchise or a monumental mistake.

I can't wait for this. Alright Maniacs, who do you want to cast in these roles?

I really have no familiarity with this new version of the Guardians except an episode of the new Avengers animated show. Wow, alot of comic fans like to think their favorites are a higher class of entertainment than other forms, and occasionally some are. But reading over this info reminds me of the convoluted and bizarre plots of your typical soap opera. You don't think about it while you're in the midst of readng your favorite comics so this was kind of a funny shock reading the long, long, long, dramas of their lives. It's like reality TV on steroids but with better costumes and energy beams and people getting punched through walls.

And like other comic adaptations to the screen alot of this will have to be trimmed down to make an easily followed movie storyline.

Yeah, can't really say I'm at all that familiar with any incarnation of this group.  I know of the group.  I know of a few of the characters.  But I don't know their stories.  They don't connect to me like the timelessness of the other characters, nor do they have the same sort of history.

But i do have to say, I kind of figured this when we saw Thanos and the development of GotG.  I really didn't see and still don't see Thanos being the main villain in an Avengers sequel.  I see maybe Ultron or AIM or some for of the Masters of Evil.  But Thanos might pull the direction of what they want to do wtih the movie.  If Thanos, a space-based villain, is the villain in GotG, a spaced based group and movie, it would make more sense.

I collected their last run along with Annihilation where they played a major role. Really cool team and can not wait to see how this turns out.

Rocket Racoon is poised to be the next ultra hip and cool character to take over.

And I have been saying all along that Thanos will be the villain in this. Not only is he their natural foe but it will help sell the movie.

I still believe Mandarin will be the main villain in Avengers 2 with an outside chance of them working Ultron into it.

 Warwick Davies for Rocket Racoon.

The great thing about these characters is the fact they don't have a huge following or deep history. Disney can't take a dump on it like Fox is doing with the X-men franchise since there is not much source material to piss off the fanboys.

It's pretty straightforward. Star Lord (leader) Raccoon (comic relief), Drax (ass kicker), Gamora (hot chick) and Groot (spiritual guidance).

@Wise. Agree that Thanos is the villain in this but disagree about Mandarin. Sure it's sir Ben Kinglsey Mandarin, but this villain is stricly an Iron Man villain. I doubt Whedon and company will bypass more classic Avengers villains like Kang, Immortus, Ultron, Baron Zemo, Korvac.

I hope you are wrong because I don't want to see Mandarin in Avengers 2.

ElBaz13 9/19/2012 8:58:20 AM

Nathan Filion as Peter Quill (due to his connection to Whedon and James Gunn)

Olga Kuryenko as Gamora. Hot and deadly. See her in Centurion. She would have been my choice for Black Widow.

Rocket Raccoon. CG and voiced by Ricky Gervais

Drax. Stumped on this one but watching Jason Statham with the knives in Expendables 2 (and the baldness), why not?

Groot. CG and doesn't speak.

I think this will be Marvel's first miss-step.
just can't see this working at all.

The key to Marvel's big-screen success thus far has been their ability to crossover from comic fans to the average movie goer. But this...?

I'm a longtime comic fan, and even to me I'm thinking... Flying Raccoon and Walking Talking Tree??? Sorry. Too far "out there" for Joe-Six-Pack and his family.

For there to be Ultron, there needs to be a Hank Pym.  Unless they do Ant-Man first and at the end he created Ultron, then it goes to the Avengers 2 with Ultron being the main bad guy.  I dunno.  Whedon said he's not going to go big like he did in the last movie, so I'm not sure what's in store.
