Director Guy Ritchie has confirmed that he's in charge of remaking the Lee Marvin classic, THE DIRTY DOZEN. While speaking to IESB's Robert Sanchez on the US promotion of Revolver Guy, Robert asked about his participation in the remake. Two things were confirmed out of the discussion. The first was the confirmation above and the second was the warning that Ritchie would first tackle the big screen adaptation of his Gamekeeper comic, a film previously reported here.

Ritchie is currently shooting a new film called RocknRolla, based on a story concept much like his early crime genre efforts(Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels & Snatch).

Christ, another classic remade. It just keeps getting worse

Didn't they already sorta remake this back in '98, and just changed the setting to space? Sure, Armageddon isn't worth ranking anywhere near that classic, but it's definitely something we don't need to sit through again. I have a cheaper idea. How about instead of wasting money on these damn remakes, just polish up the originals and re-release them in theaters. At least people wouldn't be forced to watch trashed up revisions of their favorite classics.

Just proves hollyweird has no original ideas. Also, Tarentino is doing a "reimagining" of the same film, but at least he's not naming it 'Dirty Dozen." Even though it will basically be the same, it's called "Inglorious Bastards." And it's a safe bet it will be gazillions of times better than anything Madonna's husband can make.

Armageddon ??? what the hell are you talking about? Armageddon was about a astroid eventually hitting the earth lol The Dirty Dozen is about a group of criminals in WWII sent to do a suicide mission basically and anyone left alive were to get their military pardons and return back to active duty. But anyway this movie does not need to be remade you can't touch the original and the caliber of actors that took part of it.

Sacrilidge!!!!!! There are certain movies you don't remake because there isn't a Freaking need to and this is one of them.

Hey Dragonrift, you're waaaay off with that comparison champ. How can you say Armageddon is a remake of Dirty Dozen?? That doesn't even make sense. DD was about criminals who were serving large sentences and were told that if they helped the military out in a secret mission they would be freed. Armageddon is about an asteroid about to hit Earth and NASA asks a team of oil drillers to help stop the asteroid. Where are the similarities?

Armagedon wasn't anywhere close to being The Dirty Dozen. I'm not opposed to remakes, but I'm having a hard time seeing anyone fill Lee Marvin's shoes. Who are they going to get, R. Lee Ermy? Come to think of it, that wouldn't be bad casting.

I am down with a remake of this movie as long as they bring together an awesome cast like the original. But can't they find a better director than Guy Ritchie? If Spielberg was in charge no one would be griping. Also those of you who gripe about remakes know that if they remake this movie they will remake another classic WW2 movie, The Great Escape. So be prepared if this goes through it won't be long before they remake that movie as well.

Well... I guess I should be grateful about this at least being a film that's several decades old and not something that just came out in 1985. I do like Ritchie as a filmmaker. Still - not something that needs a remake by any means. Movie holds up very well today. What more is there to say with it? I'd be more interested in a sequel set in Afghanistan or Iraq where they reference the first film and then recruit a bunch of modern day criminal/soldiers like Lynndie England. Erik Per Sullivan could play her.

And I thought I was lazy...you mean these people cant find one original idea in all those scripts they get everyday???
