This movie has been a long time coming. "Point of Impact," the novel it's based on, is a great read, and since Stephen Hunter is a well-known movie critic, he's got an excellent feel for how a story works. I hope Hunter is actively involved in the writing for the motion picture and it lives up to the novel.

Much as I'd rather see Fillion returning as Mal Reynolds or playing, say, Indiana Jones, I'm happy to see him getting the work. As for Tim Minear... oh, Tim. When drive is cancelled, it'll be his 4th series cancelled by Fox since 2002.

In defense of Alten: I agree that Meg was atrocious, but it was also Alten's first novel. I read one of his later, non-Meg books (Domain, I think), and with was much improved. With respect to Meg itself, it's a pretty solid high concept, and sometimes, that's all you need in Hollywood. They've taken LOTS of good books and turned them into crappy movies, so under the right control, it's possible that a crappy book can become a decent movie.
