We have our first two leading cast members for the upcoming adaptation of the best selling video game series Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. HR confirms that Jake Gyllenhaal (first report by Latino Review) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) will be starring in the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer production for Disney. Director Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is set to direct the feature film.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.
Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing. Production is set to start in July.

Plot Concept:
In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will hit theaters July 19, 2009.

Who am I to say, but does Jake Gyllenhaal look like he's persian?

I think he can pass for Persian (Iranian now for those who don't know) he's dark enough IMO. Not a gamer so I guess I'll wait for a trailer before commenting but the plot doesn't really intrigue me.

Gyllenhaal as the Prince of fuckin Persia? Really? why oh why. Damn it all straight to helllllllllll!!!!!!!!

I don't need an actual persian to play the role but Gyllenhal? Whatever, I'll still be there like a little bitch to watch this shit. Shoot me now!!!

I think every major actor will have appeared in a film that is inspired by either a comic book or video game at this rate.

I would've liked Orlando Bloom more than Gyllenhaal, but he's certainly no more Persian/Iranian than Gyllenhaal is. Is Naveen Andrews too old for a role like this?

I have to admit im not very excited about this. I avoided Pirates of the Carribean and i cant see this as being any better a franchise for Bruckheimer. I have played every POP game and much like Tomb Raider, running, jumping and killing does not translate to the big screen without adding additional useless characters for interaction and dumb plot devices to move the script beyond just getting from one point to another via daring feats of athleticism. Just as well Mechner has worked on the script otherwise i would completely write it off as a pile of 'Uwe Boll like computer game movie trash'

Also, if everyman middle-eastern actor Anthony Azizi isnt in this somewhere, its a crime. He should be the Vizier.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! OH GOD NO! WHY MAMA WHHHHHHHHHHHY? The POP is olive complectioned, handsome, and athletic. NOT a pale monster faced troll. I can't stand to see his medusa face for more than five minutes without throwing up. I'd rather see Oded Fehr, as old as he is, in this role than THIS GUY! BTW I say Oded Fehr for the part of Sinbad! Whose with me?

now while jake was great in BUBBLE BOY and DONNIE DARKO, i MIGHT be able to see him as the prince if he tans well and good and dark, also it could be nice to see him get into the role of action hero.

I think he was an ok choice... and remember, he was almost Batman in BB... still have to see a trailer.....

I like Jake. He is a very good actor, but I really can't see him in an action fantasy flick. Then again I said that same thing about Matt Damon and look how well that worked out. I just tend to see Jake in more serious roles like Zodiac, Rendition, and Jarhead. He`s going to need to work out a little more and maybe go tanning like everyday. I suppose if Angelina Jolie can play a black woman, Gyllenhal can play a Persian. I`m sure the Iranian community are going to be really happy about this casting.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. People will cast this douche in anything. He blows and his sister is ugly. However, I would do her, don't get me wrong. Although, I would put that scarecrow mask over her head. Hanso is too funny by the way.
