Pacific Rim Official Wondercon Trailer

A perfect summer movie?!

The WonderCon trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has surfaced. This is by far the best trailer for the film to date. It has all the makings of a perfect summer movie. July 12th suddenly seems too far away.

The Plot: In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

The film features Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr., and Diego Klattenhoff.

The Pacific Rim opens July 12th, 2013.

It's the big monster movie I had always dreamed about, Thank you Mr Del Toro your awesome...That last part where he was using the ship as a blunt object killer and I  hope we get allot of that full on city destruction and unique ways of using large scale objects as weapons in the battle they have, cant't wait!!!

This comes out the day before my birthday. I can't think of a better present.

Can I give this movie an A just based on visual awesomeness and giant robot badassery?  Or does it actually have to have a good plot and decent acting?  If not, I'm ready to turn in my official rating already because this just can NOT be bad.

Gee giant robots vs giant monsters. These have both been done to death. Looks like a bay type film, lots of effects, not so much story.

Wiseguy 4/30/2013 5:01:05 AM

It's a must see for me but it still doesn't rank along any of the cbm nor does it get me that excited.

Along the lines of what laz said, Transformers has taken some of the novelty away from giant robots.

I would rather see a good Godzilla film which hopefully we'll get soon enough

Anyway maybe GDT will finally have a big hit and if it leads to green lighting At The Mountain of Madness then I'll be one happy mother effer

I'm pretty excited about it.  And I disagree on the Bay type of film.  Del Toro is a masterful storyteller.  This kind of reminds me of Starship Troopers in a way - looks like they put a HUGE budget on effects, and got competent but not super famous people to play the roles.  I'll check it out.  I have to think if you skip this one because you're not a fan of Bay's Transformers movies, you'd be doing yourself a disservice.

@doublec. Beat you by one! That's actually on my birthday,

Looks so cool and I am hoping that Del Toro fixes the giant robot / giant monster genre after Bay ripped its head off and dumped down its neck.

Bryzarro 4/30/2013 6:42:50 AM

Done to Death and calling it a Bay film.  Haha!  Guess some don't read the movie profile.  Can't really think of a film del Toro has been attached too to even rank near what Bay does.  And thats not a knock on Bay i enjoy most of his films.  Well to each their own thats why free will and opinion exist.

This Trailer was amazing!!  I am loving the story that we know so far and the battle scenes are epic.  Yeah using the boat to bash the monster in, and my favorite the double handed head smash.  Make it July now!!!!

I've made no secret I don't think much of the Transformers movies. I don't hate them, they just don't feel special or cool to me. The main thing that did impress me though were the great FX.

But the FX for this just awe me! Plus, for some reason this anime come to life story I find really appealing. Maybe because I enjoy del Toro's work alot more.

I'll see this in the theater!
