Sony Confirm's Chow is off GREEN HORNET

Both Variety and The Hollwood Reporter have confirmed with Sony that Stephen Chow is no longer on board to play Kato in 'The Green Hornet'.

Sony has issued a statement saying that the actor left on amicable terms and his departure is due to scheduling issues.

The Reporter also confirms that Cameron Diaz has signed on as the female lead. Seth Rogen is, of course, starring, writing and producing. Michel Gondry is directing. The film is due to being production later this year.

Possibly Knives Chau (played by Ellen Wong) with her trademark scarf on the set of SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD

The Savage Sword of  SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD

Regular Comics2Film readers know that they can find a new photo from 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' every day on director Edgar Wright's website. One turned up this week that shows off a cool prop from the film. As always, Wright offers no caption or description which just adds to the fun.

As far as we can gather, this photo shows Knives Chau (Pilgrim's ex-girlfriend played by Ellen Wong), dragging her trademark scarf along with a huge sword from her father's sword collection.

Cool!

DEAD OF NIGHT Comic-Con Details

Over at the 'Dead of Night' production blog, Dan Forcey gives fans the scoop on where to find Dylan Dog at Comic-Con next week.

Just to make it clear to everyone planning to come (and I hope there are thousands of you!):

The panel starts at 10am on Thursday July 23rd in Room 32AB.

The autograph session with Kevin, Brandon and some surprise others starts at 12 noon in the autograph hall.

There are no tickets for the autographs, but there is a full hour between the panel and the signing session, so there should be plenty of time to get upstairs and get a good place in line.  Knowing the guys that are signing, they’ll probably stay as long as the Con lets them, as they love fans.  So there shouldn’t be any trouble everyone getting an autograph that wants one.

I’ll be there in the audience and will provide a full report here after it happens.  I’ll try to make it that night, in fact, but I’m not promising anything.  I just got to see the footage they’ll be showing today and it’s pretty freakin’ cool!!!

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

JUSTICE LEAGUE Flashback One: Adam Brody talks costumes and regrets

Movieline chatted up Adam Brody about the new horror flick 'Jennifer's Body'. They also worked in a few questions about the defunct 'Justice League' feature film. Fans recall that Brody was cast to play The Flash in the movie, before it collapsed under various pressures. Here's an interesting exceprt:

Movieline: I wanted to broach Justice League with you…I interviewed the Mulroneys a little while ago, and Michelle said, “I’ll talk about Justice League, but I need a drink first.” It’s got to be a little painful to have this huge movie that was so close to shooting get cancelled.

Brody: I wouldn’t say “painful.” It was a totally positive experience in my life, for a number of reasons. Also, I was never convinced it was for sure going. We were in Australia, so we were halfway there, but sets hadn’t been built yet, things still felt on the fence. So it wasn’t a big shock to me when it didn’t go. Before it, even, I totally understood the reasons for doing it and not doing it. I got both sides. At the time, I was like, “If they don’t want to do this and they don’t want to mess with Batman, their golden goose, then I totally get that and that’s probably the right call.”

That said, cut to this summer, and it would probably be coming out this week. I’m like, [groans]. That’d be so exciting. I probably miss it more now than I did then. I’m curious: Armie Hammer, who’s like the real-life Bruce Wayne, if he would have played Batman, would that have gotten in the way of Christian Bale’s [performance]? I don’t know. Would it have diluted Batman 3 a little? Not sure.

Movieline: Did they let you keep the costume, at least?

Brody: Oh God, no. [Laughs] I had it on, but it was only kind of halfway there, you know? It was a preliminary version. There’s some pictures somewhere of me making funny poses in a half-done Flash outfit. That said, after seeing the movies this summer, it could have been great. The Mulroneys did a really good job, and George Miller — I was so curious. I think everybody couldn’t wait to see what he was gonna do. But it was a good experience. I got to be in Australia for a month, we all got paid a little bit, and I got to hang out with George Miller.

Movieline: What was that like?

Brody: He’s just, like, the coolest hippie ever. We spent two weeks talking superhero love — it was this huge superhero roundtable."

JUSTICE LEAGUE Flashback Two: The Screenwriters Look Back

Speaking of 'Justice League', Movieline also spoke with screenwriters Kieran & Michele Mulroney earlier this month about the script they wrote for the film. Here's an exceprt:

Movieline: Speaking of projects that were almost about to happen, Justice League came this close to shooting, and then…

Michele: Pardon me, I need a drink if we’re going to talk about Justice League. [Laughs]

Kieran: It was a fantastic experience. The movie needs to get made, and it will.

Michele: Yeah, we’re not at liberty to discuss too much about Justice League for various reasons, but all I can say is that we had an incredible blast writing it. To get to write for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman…I mean, it doesn’t get any better. We had a phenomenal time working with George Miller on this.

Kieran: We ran into the writers strike. A lot of projects that should have been made, didn’t get made. And this was a strike that we fully supported. Things happened, and it’s postponed for the time being. But it’s a great big movie that’s gonna get made.

Movieline: Have you done any more work on it since the strike?

Michele: We haven’t personally done any work on it in a little while, and I don’t think anyone else has. It’s just sitting there in its little cocoon, waiting for the right moment in the superhero canon.

Kieran: There’s a Batman movie that people are very eagerly anticipating that will get its due. Everything else [the studio is] working on will proceed in a bit. I don’t think the world’s done with superheroes yet.

Michele: Look, we work for Warner Brothers all the time…in fact, we’re working on something right now that we’re not even allowed to talk about. We love those guys, they’re awesome. Justice League is all good.

Kieran: But it is an odd through-line. From Paper Man, our “welcome to Hollywood” script, to Justice League by way of [Paper Man’s] imaginary superhero Captain Excellent who lies around on couches and complains all the time…it was interesting. Coming after Justice League and all the time we spent on that movie, maybe we’ll stay away from people who can fly for a while.

New director for HACK/SLASH

The long in-development film version of Tim Seely and Stefano Caselli's hit genre-twisting comic 'Hack/Slash' has a new director, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Newcomer Fredrik Bond replaces Todd Lincoln on the project, which has been churning for a bout five years now. Reportedly Rogue is putting it on the fast-track with a winter production start in mind. Bond is best known as a commercial director, but is also attached to the America remake of 'The Host'.

Justin Marks penned the script. Alexandra Milchan, Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter are producing.

The comic, published by Devil's Due tells the story of Cassie Hack, the archetypical girl-who-survives at the end of a slasher movie. But Carrie goes a step further than survival and starts hunting down serial killing monsters to stop their reign of terror. She's aide by Vlad, a hulking, masked figure that could give Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers a good fight.

Can I get a reboot? Cage Talks GHOST RIDER 2

MTV Splash Page caught up with Nicolas Cage during the press tour for 'G-Force'. The actor admitted to them he hopes to get another shot at 'Ghost Rider' but wants a reboot of sorts.

"I would like to do a reconceive," Cage said in a video interview. "I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that’s what they’re talking about."

Cage suggests a story that has the flaming spirit fo vengeance traveling to Europe and getting mixed up with the Roman Catholic Church. Check out the clip:

Is Seth Rogen Fit to Play GREEN HORNET?

One obvious objection that fans have had to Seth Rogen playing the pulp crime fighter 'Green Hornet' is that the guy doesn't seem to be athletic. However, we get a glimpse of him in this behind the scenes clip from Simon Pegg's new movie 'Paul' and it looks like the guy is getting into fighting trim. 'Green Hornet' is supposed to film in September. Take a look:

Armie Hammer?  LOL.  JL could've been great had they cast it right.  Now they get a second chance.

Cage, you messed up.  Take your weaves somewhere else and let the reboot happen without you.

Rogan is definately looking more in shape. I am interested to see how the film turns out, to bad about Chow though, he was about the perfecting casting choice imo. I would actually love to see them dust off Jason Scott Lee for this, tho he's in his early 40's now, don't know if that plays into their continuing the franchise. He was looking in great shape in balls of fury.

Can't judge the new Hack/Slash director until I actually see a movie. But seeing as I am a huge Hack/Slash fan I am willing to give the guy a chance. Nice to see its finally moving along. Sign up Michael Clark Duncan for Vlad and a lesser known actress for Cassie (I'll accept Megan Fox if she actually signs, but I am sick of seeing her name attached to everything, would prefer an unknown or lesser known).

SgtTechCom 7/15/2009 10:09:43 AM

CAGE RULES. He is Johnny Blaze. He's just completely out of his mind and thinks he's Elvis ahh thank you very much ! TcB.

Rogan is going to surprise alot of people. He's in outstanding shape. He's not all burely and goofy looking.

JLA can suck it. If anything test the waters out with a WB show much as they were talking after Smallville. Then see how it goes.

Am I the only one who loved Ghost Rider?!

I thought it was awesome, and it was pretty true to all the GR comics I've read in my day... It doesn't need a re-boot, and Nic Cage was sweet as Johnn Blaze.

Rogan is gonna kick ass as the Green Lan... uh I mean Green hornet ( maybe the 30 or so people who remember the show will disagree, but he's gonna be great) People forget comedians are ussually tortured souls, who have a lot more depth and pain than they let us see while they are covering it up with their comedy.

gauleyboy420 7/15/2009 10:32:17 AM

Just watched the clip, and ummmmm not sure about a GODDAMN RECONCIEVE or RE-BOOT GOD I'm sick of re-boots (except for The Incredible Hulk, it needed it) GR should be kept a Western. Such potential, and we get so few Westerns these days.

Matador 7/15/2009 11:44:07 AM

Nope just get Nic Cgae out of Marvel! Wasn't he the dreamer of a one time fail attempt to be Superman.

I'd rather see Nic play a villan psycho he can do maybe Vermin in a Spiderman flick. Brilliant!

jfdavis 7/15/2009 11:48:35 AM

Ghost Rider was much better than Daredevil and the first Hulk movie so I don't think it needs a reboot in the "traditional" sense.  My one problem with was Roxanne. She seemed turned on when she found out he was a flaming skeleton in spiked leather. I don't want to know women like that... GR shouldn't have a love interest. Dump that and you've got a great movie. I do like the Western suggestion though...

The only superhero I can really see Adrian Brody as is Nightcrawler but Alan Cummings did great so...

silversurfer 7/15/2009 11:55:45 AM

I always said that someone like Johnny Depp should've done Ghost Rider....he would've been intereting as Johnny Blaze, and I think that he wou'ld've totally been into it...

Nic Cage used to be cool....now I'm not so sure anymore...

Off subject: I watched Push last night....I didn't think it was all that bad?

hanso 7/15/2009 12:11:23 PM

I thought it was great but then again I saw after seeing Knowing which was a piece of shit so that may have made Push look better than it was.

The movie felt like they could've done more with it.  Looking back it's not that good of a movie either but I'd see a sequel when it hits Netflix.

Chow has a scheduling conflict... so what IS Chow working on these day? But losing him and Gaining Diaz - Talk about a double whammy. :-(
